Harvey Strikes Twice to Snap Raiders Three-Game Skid
Prince Albert, SK – Ben Harvey scored twice in the second period to lift the Prince Albert Raiders (2-3-0-0) to a 4-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels (2-2-0-1) at the Art Hauser Centre on Wednesday night.
The goals were Harvey’s fourth and fifth of the season, giving him eight points through five games this season.
Brandon Gorzynski and Alisher Sarkenov also found the back of the net for the Raiders. Jonah Sivertson chipped in a pair of assists.
The Rebels opened the scoring 2:23 into the first period. Cameron Kuzma took a pass as he crossed the blue line. He skated to the right faceoff circle and snapped a shot off the far post and past Michal Orsulak to make it a 1-0 game.
The Raiders’ best chance to equalize in the opening frame came on a power play. Brandon Gorzynski’s shot from the right wing was stopped by Matthew Kondro. The rebound went right to Alisher Sarkenov, but his one-time chance was denied by a sliding Kondro.
Orsulak was up to the task at the other end of the ice. He stopped a flurry of chances on a Rebels power play to keep the Raiders within one.
Harvey got the Raiders on the board midway through the second period. Sivertson took control of the puck behind the Rebels goal and found Harvey in front of the goal. Harvey wired a shot from between the hashmarks over Matthew Kondro to tie things up.
Seven minutes later, Harvey struck again. He worked a give-and-go with Brock Cripps near the top of the offensive one. Harvey blasted a one-timer past Kondro to give the Raiders the 2-1 lead.
The Raiders doubled their lead midway through the third period. Owen Corkish put a shot on the Rebels net. A defender in front stopped it and cleared it, but Jordan Murray knocked it down. Gorzynski found the loose puck, turned and fired a shot past a sprawling Kondro for his first of the year, making it a 3-1 game.
Sarkenov rounded out the scoring with an empty-net marker with 2:57 to play to seal the Raiders 4-1 win.
Orsulak made 25 saves to pick up his second win on the season. Kondro stopped 34 shots in the loss for the Rebels.
