McDonald Joins Raiders as Assistant Coach
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders have added alumnus Ryan McDonald as an assistant coach as the team heads into the WHL’s East Division Hub Centre in Regina.
McDonald, a Prince Albert product, was named the inaugural coach for the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA team for the 2020-21 season. He served as the bench boss for the U15 AA Wildcats for the previous three seasons in Warman.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to join the Raiders coaching staff in Regina,” said McDonald. “I was fortunate to have the privilege of playing for the team I grew up watching and to join the coaching staff, is a dream come true. I look forward to working with the staff and players.”
In his playing days, McDonald was second-round pick of the Brandon Wheat Kings in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft. He was acquired by the Raiders during the 2006-07 season from the Regina Pats.
McDonald played 182 games with the Raiders over two and a half seasons. He totalled 82 goals and 162 points during his time in Prince Albert.
Over his 306-game WHL career, the centreman posted 97 goals and 186 points.
Following his time in the WHL, McDonald played four seasons of U SPORTS hockey – three with Lakehead University and one with the University of Saskatchewan. He finished his U SPORTS career with 40 goals and 72 points in 78 games.
