Regina, Sask.<\/strong> \u2013 The Regina Pats are proud to announce that forwards Maddox Schultz<\/strong> and Liam Pue<\/strong> have been named to Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp ahead of the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup<\/strong>, which will be held Aug. 3-9 in Edmonton, Alta.<\/p>\n

Schultz and Pue are among the 27 players invited to camp and are the only two 2010-born players selected to attend.<\/p>\n

Schultz, 16, enjoyed a standout rookie campaign with the Pats in 2025-26, recording 29 points (15G-14A) in 34 games. The Regina product also dominated at the U18 level with the Regina Pat Canadians, posting 60 points (30G-30A) in 21 regular season games before helping lead the club to a SMAAAHL championship and Western Regional title with 20 points (12G-8A) in 11 playoff and regional games. Internationally, Schultz represented Canada at the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, finishing with nine points (6G-3A) in five games.<\/p>\n

Pue, 16, collected 16 points (6G-10A) in 34 games during his rookie season with the Pats. The Langley, B.C. product also starred alongside Schultz with the Regina Pat Canadians, registering 48 points (16G-32A) in 21 regular season contests before totaling 18 points (7G-11A) in 11 playoff and regional games en route to league and regional championships. Pue also represented Canada White at the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, recording eight points (4G-4A) in five games.<\/p>\n

Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp will run from July 27 to Aug. 1 at NAIT Arena and Rogers Place in Edmonton. The camp roster includes three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 15 forwards.<\/p>\n

As part of camp, Canada will face Sweden on July 30 before taking on Czechia on Aug. 1 in pre-tournament action. The final roster for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be announced prior to the tournament.<\/p>\n

Of the 27 players invited, 25 represented Canada Red or Canada White at the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, one won a bronze medal at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and one competed for Canada at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship.<\/p>\n

Canada opens the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup against Switzerland on Aug. 3 before facing Slovakia on Aug. 4 and Sweden on Aug. 5 to conclude the preliminary round. The tournament wraps up with the medal games on Aug. 8.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Regina, Sask.<\/strong> \u2013 The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Samuel Karsay<\/strong> to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/p>\n

Karsay, 18, was selected by the Pats in the third round (146th overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-1, 179-pound left winger from Ilava, Slovakia, split the 2025-26 season between HK Spartak Dubnica in Slovakia’s second division and HK Dukla Tren\u010d\u00edn U20. In 11 games with Tren\u010d\u00edn’s U20 club, the 2008-born forward registered seven points (four goals, three assists).<\/p>\n

Karsay was also ranked 63rd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft. On the international stage, Karsay represented Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship, helping his country earn a silver medal.<\/p>\n

“We’re very excited to see Samuel in a Pats uniform very soon,” said Regina Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch. “He’s a competitive two-way forward who plays with a lot of pace and has a knack for creating offense around the net. We believe he has the tools to make an impact in our lineup, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development in Regina.”<\/p>\n

Karsay becomes the latest member of the Pats’ 2026 import class to sign with the club after import defenceman Tomas Cermak signed earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Regina, Sask.<\/strong> \u2013 The Regina Pats are proud to announce that prospects Logan Henry<\/strong> and Cruz Nicolay<\/strong> have been invited to Hockey Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp<\/strong>, taking place July 17-21 at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario.<\/p>\n

Henry and Nicolay are among 80 of the country’s top under-17 players invited to attend the five-day camp, which features eight goaltenders, 24 defencemen and 48 forwards. All 80 players have been selected in the Canadian Hockey League Draft, including 29 players from the Western Hockey League.<\/p>\n

“We’re very excited to see two of our prospects, Logan Henry and Cruz Nicolay, earn invitations to Hockey Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp,” said Regina Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch<\/strong>. “It’s a testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication they’ve shown throughout their hockey careers. This is a tremendous opportunity for both players to compete against the top talent in their age group from across the country, and we’re excited to see how they perform and continue their development.”<\/p>\n

Henry, 15, spent the 2025-26 season with Burnaby Winter Club U18 Prep, recording eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 27 regular-season games. The Prince George, B.C. product elevated his game in the postseason, tallying six points (1G-5A) in five playoff contests. The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward also represented Team British Columbia at the WHL Cup, where he was named Game MVP against Team Manitoba and helped his province capture a silver medal after posting four points (3G-1A). Henry added two goals at the Circle K Classic before being selected by the Pats 23rd overall in the first round of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.<\/p>\n

Nicolay, 16, suited up for Calgary IHA U18 Prep during the 2025-26 campaign, collecting three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 27 games while ranking second among team defencemen in goals and third in points. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound blueliner also appeared in five games at the Circle K Classic, made two AJHL appearances with the Drayton Valley Thunder, and made his WHL debut with the Pats on March 14 against the Prince Albert Raiders. The Rocky Mountain House, Alta. native recorded his first WHL point with an assist in Regina’s regular-season finale in Brandon. Nicolay was selected 27th overall by the Pats in the first round of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.<\/p>\n

Players will be divided into four teams for the development camp, which includes two days of practices followed by six games from July 19-21.<\/p>\n

Cermak, 18, was selected by the Pats in the second round (85th overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-shot defenceman from Plze\u0148, Czechia, spent the 2025-26 season with BK Mlad\u00e1 Boleslav U20 in the Czech U20 league, tallying five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 48 games. Cermak was also ranked 82nd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

“We’re very excited to get Tomas signed to a WHL Standard Player Education and Development Agreement,” said Regina Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch. “I’m really looking forward to seeing Tomas in a Pats sweater as we feel he has the tools to be a dependable two-way defenceman for our squad.”<\/p>\n

Regina, Sask.<\/strong> \u2013 Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Regina Pats Manager of Hockey Operations and Goaltending Coach Max Paddock<\/strong> has been named the goaltending coach for Team Canada White<\/strong> at the 2026 U17 World Challenge.<\/p>\n

Hockey Canada also unveiled the coaching and support staffs that will lead Canada’s national under-17 teams through the 2026 U17 World Challenge, which is scheduled for Nov. 1-7 in Oakville, Ont.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paddock, 26, enters his third season with the Regina Pats organization after joining the club as goaltending coach ahead of the 2024-25 season. He also begins his second season as the Pats’ Manager of Hockey Operations.<\/p>\n

A native of Brandon, Man., Paddock enjoyed a standout WHL career that included four seasons with the Regina Pats from 2016-20. He helped backstop the Pats to the 2018 Memorial Cup Final, earning a place on the CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team following the tournament. He ranks 14th in franchise history in games played by a goaltender (114), minutes played (6,314) and goals-against average (3.27).<\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of his WHL career with the Prince Albert Raiders, Paddock utilized the WHL Scholarship program while attending Acadia University and the University of the Fraser Valley from 2021-24 before returning to Regina in a coaching role.<\/p>\n

Canada’s national under-17 development camp is scheduled for July 17-21<\/strong> at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ont. The camp will feature practices and six exhibition games as players continue to be evaluated throughout the 2026-27 Canadian Hockey League season ahead of the 2026 U17 World Challenge.<\/p>\n

Regina, Sask.<\/strong> \u2013 The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced Thursday that assistant coaches Taras McEwen and Del Pedrick have joined the organization, rounding out the coaching staff under newly appointed Head Coach Dave Bell.<\/p>\n

McEwen and Pedrick bring a combined 40-plus years of coaching experience to the Pats, with extensive backgrounds at the U18 AAA, Junior A and Western Hockey League levels.<\/p>\n

“We’re pleased to add a young and bright hockey mind with WHL head coaching experience in Taras to our staff, and we’re equally excited to welcome Del, who brings more than 30 years of coaching experience at various levels, including as a WHL assistant coach,” said Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch. “These two hockey minds are outstanding communicators who will provide valuable support to Dave while placing a strong emphasis on the development of our young core. Both have an impressive track record of developing players, and we believe they are a perfect fit for our group.”<\/p>\n

McEwen, 35, joins the Pats after serving as Head Coach of the Prairie Hockey Academy U18 Prep team during the 2025-26 season. Under his guidance, PHA posted a 21-8 record before advancing to the quarterfinals of the CSSHL Playoffs.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining Prairie Hockey Academy, the Whitewood, Sask., product spent two seasons with the Swift Current Broncos, serving as both an assistant coach and head coach from 2023-25. During his tenure, the Broncos qualified for the WHL Playoffs in both seasons, highlighted by a 40-22-4-2 campaign in 2023-24 that saw Swift Current finish second in the Eastern Conference and first in the Central Division. That season, McEwen guided the Broncos past the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a first-round sweep before falling to the eventual WHL champion Moose Jaw Warriors in the second round.<\/p>\n

Before taking over behind the Broncos bench, McEwen served as an assistant coach with the Winnipeg ICE during the 2022-23 season, helping the club capture the WHL regular season title with 115 points before advancing to the WHL Championship Series. Prior to transitioning into coaching, he spent five seasons as a scout with the Kootenay and Winnipeg ICE organizations from 2017-22.<\/p>\n

Pedrick arrives in Regina following four seasons as an assistant coach with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-26, where he worked primarily with the club’s defence corps.<\/p>\n

Before joining Brandon, the Swan River, Man., native spent 16 seasons with Notre Dame, serving as Director of Player Development while also holding various coaching roles. He was named Head Coach of the Notre Dame Hounds U18 AAA program in 2021-22, leading the club to a SMAAAHL Championship.<\/p>\n

Pedrick’s coaching resume also includes two TELUS Cup national championships with the Notre Dame Hounds U18 AAA program in 2009 and 2010. Trottier, 18, was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the sixth round (189th overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft<\/strong> this past weekend. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-shot forward joins the Pats after spending the 2025-26 season with the U.S. National Under-18 Team, recording 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 61 games<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A native of Edina, Minnesota, Trottier is committed to the University of Notre Dame and was originally selected by the Pats with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 WHL U.S. Priority Draft<\/strong>. Prior to joining USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, he developed at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, one of the premier hockey programs in the United States, from 2022-24.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trottier also has deep Saskatchewan roots. He is the grandson of Hockey Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier<\/strong>, the Val Marie, Sask. product who captured six Stanley Cups during his legendary NHL career. Bryan also played junior hockey in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos and Lethbridge Broncos.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pats will open the 2026-27 campaign on Friday, September 18<\/strong>, when they travel to the Art Hauser Centre to take on the Prince Albert Raiders.<\/p>\n

Regina begins the season with its first two games on the road, visiting the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, September 25<\/strong>. The Pats will then return to the Brandt Centre for their home opener on Sunday, September 27<\/strong>, welcoming the Swift Current Broncos for a 2 p.m. puck drop.<\/p>\n
