Pats Cruise Back into the Brandt Centre
Game Sponsor: A&W
Head-to-Head
The Regina Pats (1-5-0-0) and Saskatoon Blades (1-5-0-0) clash for the first of eight meetings in the 2013-14 season. Last year’s season series belonged to the Blades as they won all but one of the teams’ contests. Brendan Walker led last year’s Saskatoon squad with 13 points in six games, but he, like many others of Saskatoon’s top scorers, have moved on after hosting the Memorial Cup. Morgan Klimchuk was the top Pat last season with 10 points (4G, 6A) in six games against the Blades. Heading into tonight’s game, the Pats hope to get on track after their third straight loss coming at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos while the Blades grabbed their first win with a victory over Edmonton last night. Tonight’s game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting at 5:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Broncos Early Strike Downs Pats 6-1
The Broncos started quickly with three goals in the first period, two in the first four minutes. Dawson MacAuley was lifted from the net after the third marker for Spencer Tremblay to get in his first action as a Pat. The Blue and White bounced back in the second, pulling within two, but couldn’t solve Eetu Laurikainen past the one Morgan Klimchuk goal. Swift Current added two more to wrap up a 6-1 victory on home ice.
Carrying the Offence
Morgan Klimchuk and Chandler Stephenson were expected to account for the bulk of the Pats’ offence, but maybe not as much as they are. The Pats have scored 13 goals with Klimchuk and Stephenson combining for 7 of those goals (53.8%).
All Hands on Deck
With Griffin Mumby getting back in the lineup after a minor injury, every player on the Pats roster has now played in a game in the early season. This includes call-up Spencer Tremblay who stopped 20/23 shots in 45:51 minutes of action in Saturday’s game against Swift Current.
Welcome Home
The Pats finally return to the Brandt Centre tonight for the first time since their Home Opener September 19th making it 16 days between home games. That’s a small break compared to what the Pats will face in November when they are away from the Brandt Centre for 25 days between home games. The Pats went 1-4-0-0 on their latest stretch of road games.
Who to Watch on Saskatoon
There are a lot of new faces on the Saskatoon Blades, but returning defenceman Nelson Nogier should be on your radar. The 17-year old defender was a “B” Skater on Central Scouting’s Preliminary ‘Ones to Watch’ list and helps anchor a rebuilding Saskatoon blue-line.
