RECAP: Pats Snap Slide with Convincing Win over SC
Final Score: Pats 4, Broncos 1
Record: 3-7-0
Standings: 5th-place, East Division
Swift Current, Sask. — The Regina Pats fired a ton of rubber on net on Friday night and this time they were rewarded with a 4-1 victory over the Swift Current Broncos.
The Pats are now 3-7-0 on the season, while the Broncos fall to 2-6-2.
The Regiment out-shot the home side 48-28 in the game, including 19-5 in the third period alone. Despite all the shots, the score was tight throughout, with Regina entering the third with a tentative 2-1 lead and not getting their third goal until there was just over five minutes remaining.
Pats forward Cole Dubinsky kept his hot play going, scoring twice. He picked up both the game-winning-goal and the insurance marker, the latter of which came on a power play. Zack Stringer also scored a pair, tying the game early in the second period and capping off his night with an empty-net goal.
The Pats host the Broncos next on the schedule tomorrow night to wrap up the home-and-home.
THE GOALS
1st Period
SC 1-0 at 12:04 – Josh Davies (3), assisted by Connor Hvidston (3) and Raphael Pelletier (3) PPG // Hvidston entered the offensive zone down the right side and stopped up in the corner, before turning and finding Davies in the slot, who fired a shot through the five hole of goaltender Matthew Kieper.
2nd Period
REG 1-1 at 5:40 – Zack Stringer (3), assisted by Cole Carrier (4) and Zack Smith (5) // Smith intercepted an outlet pass just inside the offensive zone and set up Carrier for a good chance from the left slot. Although Dyck stopped Carrier, Stringer was right there in front to settle down the bouncing puck and tap it into a wide open net.
REG 2-1 at 7:34 – Cole Dubinsky (5), assisted by Connor Bedard (3) // Dubinsky intercepted a pass at centre ice, entered the zone down the left side and set up Bedard right from the slot. Bedard changed the angle on his shot after throwing a head fake on Dyck, and slid the puck through the five-hole, but the Broncos goaltender got a piece of the puck with his left skate, redirecting it just wide of the net. Luckily for the Pats, Dubinsky was right there to backhand the puck into the net to give Regina the 2-1 lead.
3rd Period
REG 3-1 at 14:49 – Cole Dubinsky (6), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (6) and Logan Nijhoff (5) PPG // Dubinsky ripped home a one-timer from the right circle on a 5-on-3 power play off a pass from Stanislav Svozil.
REG 4-1 at 18:30 – Zack Stringer (4), assisted by Zack Smith (6) ENG // Smith applied pressure on defenceman Owen Pickering in his own zone with the net empty and was able to cause a turnover, before setting up Stringer in front.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Dave Struch on the Post-Game Show on 620 CKRM: “I’m really happy for the players. We’ve talked so much about well we’ve played with the puck and generated so much offence over the course of this losing streak…it looked like the usual thing with just having two goals until late in the game there, but our guys played so hard. They did tweak a little bit of the stuff that we worked on this week — getting pucks up and deep and playing fast — but overall start to finish, we’re really proud of the guys…Our power play, the guys that are on it, we’ve got good players. When we execute it the right way, I know there are times when we don’t score, but it’s not for a lack of opportunities.”
