RECAP: Pats Snap Losing-Streak With 6-5 Shootout win
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats snapped their six game losing-streak with a 6-5 shootout win over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday inside the Brandt Centre.
There were five different lead changes in this hockey game, with the Pats coming on top with their second shootout win of the season. Tanner Howe scored the shootout winner after Kelton Pyne stopped the first three Broncos shooters.
Sam Oremba tallied three points (1G-2A), including the 2023 Teddy Bear Toss goal. Howe finished with two points (1G-1A), Borya Valis tallied two assists while Tye Spencer and Jaxsin Vaughan found the back of the net.
For the Broncos, Tyson Laventure had three points (1G-2A), Rylen Gould tallied two points (1G-1A) Maddix McCagherty (1G-1A) and Connor Hvidston (1G-1A) also chipped in with multi-point performances.

First Period
1-0 Broncos at 6:55 – Connor Gabriel (3), assisted by Maddix McCagherty & Grayson Burzynski // Pyne kicked out the initial shot to Gabriel who buried the puck past the Pats goalie to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
1-1 Pats at 16:54 – Sam Oremba (6), assisted by Borya Valis & Tanner Howe (PP) // Valis hit a streaking Oremba in the slot and he made no mistake as he fired it past Kieper for the Teddy Bear Toss goal and to tie the game up at 1-1.
2-1 Broncos at 18:11 – Tyson Laventure (12), assisted by Josh Filmon & Connor Hvidston (PP) // Filmon’s shot is stopped by Pyne but he couldn’t corral the rebound and Laventure lifted it past the down and out Pats netminder to give the Broncos the lead at 2-1.
2-2 Pats at 18:44 – Tanner Howe (16), assisted by Borya Valis & Zackary Shantz // A turnover inside the Broncos zone got to Valis who sent a pass cross ice to Howe who fired it past Kieper’s outstretched glove to tie the game at 2-2.
Second Period
3-2 Pats at 8:02 – Jaxsin Vaughan (5), assisted by Zane Rowan // Rowan won the offensive zone draw to Vaughan who picked up the puck and from the hash marks fired home the goal to give the Pats a 3-2 lead.
3-3 Broncos at 13:18 – Connor Hvidston (10), assisted by Tyson Laventure // Hvidston got behind the Pats defender and deked out Pyne to tie the contest at 3-3.
4-3 Broncos at 13:31 – Maddix McCagherty (2), assisted by Rylan Gould & Clarke Caswell // Fresh off a face-off win, the Broncos broke in on a two-on-one, and McCagherty connected to restore the Broncos’ one-goal lead at 4-3.
Third Period
4-4 Pats at 2:53 – Tye Spencer (5), assisted by Sam Oremba & Anthony Wilson // Wilson won a board battle and sent the puck behind the Broncos net to Oremba who found Spencer in front and he one-timed it home to tie the game at 4-4.
5-4 Pats at 7:39 – Parker Berge (7), assisted by Sam Oremba & Jaren Brinson (4-on-4) // The Pats had a rush and Oremba was able to get the puck to a wide-open Berge who buried the puck to give the Pats the 5-4 lead.
5-5 Broncos at 13:21 – Rylan Gould (8), assisted by Tyson Laventure & Owen Pickering // Laventure got through the Pats defence and was able to direct the puck towards Pyne where Gould shoveled it past the Pats netminder to tie the game up at 5-5.

- Sam Oremba scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal at 16:54 of the first period, his sixth of the season tied the game up at 1-1. He added a pair of assists for a three-point night.
- Tye Spencer scored his fifth goal of the season, ending a 16-game goalless drought.
- With his pair of assists, Borya Valis is on a three-game point streak (1G-3A).
