RECAP: Pats End Five Game Road Swing With 7-1 Loss
Brandon, Man. – The Regina Pats wrapped up their five game road swing on Friday with a 7-1 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.
The Pats only goal was scored by Borya Valis, bringing the Pats within four late in the second period.
The Brandon Wheat Kings rebranded to the Wheat City Walleye for Friday’s contest, as they won their second straight game. Brett Hyland recorded a hat-trick, Rylen Roersma tallied three points (2G-1A), Matteo Michels tallied two points (1G-1A), Nate Danielson picked up three assists and Roger McQueen scored. Carson Bjarnason made 32 saves for his ninth victory of the season.

“I don’t think the first period goaltending gave us any help at all. I didn’t mind our first period and obviously it was 3-0 but we were playing well. We had two goals that shouldn’t have went in the net in the WHL. We were fighting an uphill battle the whole game. We try to not evaluate the result all the time, we’re in a building stage getting young guys ice time, growing guys and developing. 3-0 [after one] doesn’t look good to a fan but I liked the way we were playing in the first period. THE GOALS
First Period
1-0 Walleye at 1:30 – Rylen Roersma (9), unassisted (SH) // Roersma won a battle against a Pats defender and sent a shot towards Huet that snuck through the netminder to give the Walleye a 1-0 lead.
2-0 Walleye at 3:29 – Roger McQueen (14), assisted by Dominik Petr & Quinn Mantei (PP) // The Walleye worked the puck around the offensive zone where Petr sent a one-timed pass to the Pats’ goal and McQueen neatly tipped it past Huet to give the home town team a two-goal lead at 2-0.
3-0 Walleye at 14:17 – Brett Hyland (12), assisted by Nate Danielson & Matteo Michels // Hyland received a pass from Danielson and fired a shot to the Pat net that squeaked through Huet to extend the lead to 3-0.
Second Period
4-0 Walleye at 3:35 – Bett Hyland (13), assisted by Nate Danielson (SH) // Danielson and Hyland completed a give-and-go deep in the Pats zone with Hyland notching the second shorthanded goal for the Walleye to make it 4-0.
4-1 Pats at 15:10 – Borya Valis (7), assisted by Zackary Shantz & Tanner Howe // Howe’s shot bounced around the Walleye zone, where Shantz was able to grab the puck and find Valis cross-cease for a one-timer that put the Pats on the board down 4-1.
5-1 Walleye at 18:25 – Brett Hyland (14), assisted by Nate Danielson & Luke Shipley // Pyne stopped the one-timed shot by Danielson but kicked the rebound out to Hyland who buried the puck to renew the Walleye four-goal lead at 5-1.
Third Period
6-1 Walleye at 2:30 – Matteo Michels (6), assisted by Rylen Roersma & Tre Fouquette // The Walleye took advantage of a Pat miscue and Michels finished a give-and-go with Reorsma to extend the lead to 6-1.
7-1 Walleye at 0:00 – Rylen Roersma (10), assisted by Caleb Hadland (SH) // Roersma was sprung on a shorthanded breakaway and made no mistake to make it 7-1.

- Tanner Howe picked up his 16th assist of the season which gives him 31 points which still leads the team.
- The Pats are on a nine-game road losing streak.
- The Pats lost all five games on their five-game road trip. They have also lost six straight games.
