PREVIEW: Pats host Wheat Kings in 2024 home opener
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats host the Brandon Wheat Kings at 6pm inside the Brandt Centre. Today marks the 38th home opener all-time vs. Brandon.

The Regina Pats host the Brandon Wheat Kings in their home opener for the first time since Sept. 23, 2017 (W, 4-3) The Pats enter 5-3-1 over their last nine home openers since 2015.
The Pats and Wheat Kings are coming off a opening night victories on Friday. The Pats took down the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in overtime with Zack Shantz scoring his second career overtime winner. Meanwhile, Roger McQueen scored four times in a 5-2 win for the Brandon Wheat Kings over the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Three Pats players are currently attending NHL camps, as undrafted players Jaxsin Vaughan (ANA) and Corbin Vaughan (LAK) both participated in rookie camps, and have moved onto main camp. Meanwhile, Tanner Howe remains at Pittsburgh Penguins training camp.
Cameron Kuzma and Tyson Buczkowski missed missed opening night with injuries. Kuzma is out for the next four weeks with an upper-body injury.
WHO TO WATCH
Keep an eye out for Zackary Shantz for the Pats who picked up two points (1G-1A) in Friday’s win. In addition to Shantz, Sam Oremba scored on Friday, and is coming off a 22 goal performance in 2023-24 season, with six of those goals against the Wheat Kings.
For the Wheat Kings, Roger McQueen’s 2024-25 debut was spectacular with four goals, but Rylen Roersma also found the scoresheet with a third period goal. Roersma has scored 19+ goals in three straight seasons and scored nine goals against the Pats last year.
