PREVIEW
The Regina Pats continue their busy stretch of three games in three nights this afternoon as they take on the Moose Jaw Warriors in the second of eight meetings this season.
The Pats are coming off a hard-fought 4-3 regulation loss to the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night at the Brandt Centre — a game dominated by special teams, with both clubs scoring three times on the power play. Keets Fawcett led the way offensively, recording his first WHL hat trick while increasing his team-leading goal total to 13. Veteran netminder Matthew Hutchison made 22 saves in his Pats debut, and Regina outshot Red Deer 36-26 in the contest.
The Warriors, meanwhile, enter tonight’s matchup riding a two-game winning streak after a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Friday. Following a disappointing 2024-25 campaign that saw them finish last in the Eastern Conference (15-45-6-2) one season after capturing the WHL Championship, Moose Jaw has rebounded with a solid 9-8-1 record through 18 games.
This is the second of eight meetings between the Pats and Warriors this season. Regina took the first matchup on October 31 with a decisive 5-2 victory at the Brandt Centre — a game in which Fawcett tallied two goals and an assist, while Aiden Wagner scored his first career WHL goal. Over the last 25 meetings dating back to the 2022-23 season, the Pats are 7-15-3 against their provincial rivals, with three of last year’s eight contests going to overtime (Regina winning two).
Tonight’s contest marks the middle game of a demanding weekend for the Blue Brigade, who will return home Sunday afternoon to wrap up their three-in-three set against the Swift Current Broncos. From there, the Pats will play a heavy schedule with 13 games in November, including a pair of home dates against Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw on November 14 and 15 before embarking on a lengthy six-game U.S. Division road trip.
It’s a busy and defining stretch for a young Pats team looking to build consistency and momentum as the season hits full stride.
WHO TO WATCH
Forward Keets Fawcett has been one of the hottest players in the WHL and now sits among the league leaders in goals with 13 in 16 games (13G-5A-18PTS). The Grimshaw, Alta. product has found the back of the net 10 times in his last 10 games, and has tallied nine points over his last four outings (7G-2A). After scoring just 10 goals in 63 games last season, the 19-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the league’s breakout stars.
Rookie forward Ellis Mieyette extended his point streak to a team-high six games on Friday (2G-4A), continuing to show impressive consistency early in his WHL career. Meanwhile, Zach Lansard has recorded points in five straight games (3G-6A), producing nine points over that span as the 17-year-old continues to develop into a key offensive contributor.
COMING UP
The Pats wrap up their three-in-three weekend on Sunday, November 9 at home against the Swift Current Broncos (2:00 p.m.), before hosting the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, November 14 and the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, November 15.
