PREVIEW
The Blue Brigade has earned back-to-back victories for the first time since early November and will look to continue their surge on home ice.
The Pats are coming off a statement 6–3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings, a game that highlighted their resilience and offensive firepower. After falling behind 2–0 in the opening period, Regina responded with four unanswered goals in the second frame to take control. Ephram McNutt and Keets Fawcett each found the back of the net, while Jace Egland and Zach Lansard rounded out the scoring. Goaltender Taylor Tabashniuk made his first start since October 29, turning aside 21 shots, as the Pats outshot Brandon 36–24. Special teams were even on the night, with both clubs going 1-for-2 on the power play.
Swift Current enters Wednesday’s contest following a tight 3–2 overtime loss to the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday. The Broncos currently sit last in the WHL standings at 9-28-3-0 (21 points). After enduring a 16-game losing streak, Swift Current snapped the skid on January 3 with a 7–4 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes, their first victory since November 14 against Moose Jaw. Since then, the Broncos are 1-2-1 over their last four games, scoring 13 goals while allowing 19.
Special teams could be a deciding factor, as Regina’s power play has been among the league’s best. The Pats have scored 29 power-play goals over their last 22 games (29-for-82, 35.3%), including 14 over their last 11 outings. Overall, Regina ranks second in the WHL with 44 power-play goals this season.
