GAME PREVIEW
The Regina Pats return to the friendly confines of the Brandt Centre tonight as they open a three-game homestand against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Regina is back home following a stretch of five straight games away from home that didn’t produce the results they were hoping for. The Pats went 1-3-1 on the road and are coming off a hard-luck 5-3 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night.
Despite the final score, Regina showed plenty of positives. The Pats trailed 2-1 after the opening period before putting together a dominant second frame, outshooting Swift Current 20-5 and scoring twice to take a 3-2 lead into the third. However, the Broncos responded late, scoring three times in the final period — including an empty-net goal — to seal the win.
Keets Fawcett, Zach Moore, and Ruslan Karimov found the back of the net for Regina, while goaltender Marek Schlenker turned aside 23 shots. The Pats finished the night with a commanding 53-27 edge in shots, went 1-for-3 on the power play, and a perfect 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
Regina has now dropped three straight games and will look to get back in the win column tonight against a Warriors team they’ve had success against this season. The Pats have picked up points in all four meetings with Moose Jaw, posting a 3-0-1 record. The Warriors claimed the most recent matchup, a 5-4 overtime win on New Year’s Eve at the Brandt Centre.
Moose Jaw enters tonight’s contest fresh off a wild 7-5 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday, snapping a three-game skid. Casey Brown led the way with a monster performance, recording four goals and an assist. Colt Carter (1G-2A) and Landen McFadden (1G-2A) also chipped in with three-point nights. Edmonton outshot Moose Jaw 36-30, while the Oil Kings went 3-for-6 on the power play and the Warriors finished an efficient 3-for-4 with the man advantage.
Tonight’s matchup carries significant weight in the Eastern Conference standings. The Pats currently sit tied for eighth with 36 points, while the Warriors occupy seventh place with 41 points — five points ahead of Regina.
WHO TO WATCH
Maddox Schultz continues to be a consistent contributor in the Pats lineup. The forward picked up an assist in the last game, extending his assist streak to four games (4A). Schultz now has 10 points (2G–8A) in 16 games this season and will look to keep his playmaking touch rolling on home ice.
Keets Fawcett remains the engine of Regina’s offence. He scored his team-leading 24th goal in the previous game, pushing his season totals to 40 points (24G–16A) in 36 games. With a knack for finding the net and creating chances, Fawcett is always a threat to break open a game.
Zach Moore is heating up at the right time. The third-year Pat has points in back-to-back games (1G–1A) and now sits at 15 points (6G–9A) through 30 games this season. His recent production and steady two-way play make him a key player to watch tonight.
