GAME PREVIEW
Regina enters the matchup looking to bounce back from a 6–2 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday, a result that dropped the Pats to 1-1-1 through three games on the road trip. Despite tying the game twice in Lethbridge, Regina was unable to grab the lead and surrendered four goals in the second period that proved decisive.
Dayton Deschamps scored his first goal of the season in the loss, while Caden Brown continued his strong offensive year with his 21st of the campaign. The Pats outshot the Hurricanes 32–25, went 1-for-6 on the power play, and finished 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. In goal, Taylor Tabashniuk stopped 13 of 17 shots over 35:57 before Marek Schlenker came on in relief, allowing two goals on eight shots in 24:03.
Saturday’s opponent comes in rolling. The Hitmen are fresh off a convincing 5–1 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night in Red Deer, improving to 5-2-2 in January. Julien Maze led the way with a three-point night (1G-2A), while Aidan Hesse turned aside 35 shots and earned first-star honors. Ethan Moore, Andrei Molgachev, Blake Vanek and Wyatt Pisarczyk also found the back of the net as Calgary outshot Red Deer 42–36. Both clubs went 1-for-4 on the power play.
In the standings, the Pats remain tied for eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 36 points following Red Deer’s loss on Friday. Calgary sits fourth in the East with 53 points, holding a one-point edge on Saskatoon and a two-point cushion over Brandon in a tight playoff race.
The last meeting between the two teams came on November 4 at the Brandt Centre, where Regina earned an overtime win. Reese Hamilton posted a goal and an assist, while Keets Fawcett scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lead the Pats to victory.
