PREVIEW
The Regina Pats continue their six-game U.S. road swing tonight as they make a stop in Kent to face the Seattle Thunderbirds. It’s the third game of the trip for the Blue and White, who enter the matchup looking to break through after a pair of razor-thin setbacks. Regina fell 3–2 in Spokane on Wednesday and dropped a tight 2–1 decision to the Tri-City Americans last night—marking their 12th one-goal game of the season, the most in the WHL.
Despite the loss in Kennewick, goaltender Matthew Hutchison was the headline for Regina. The 19-year-old turned aside 27 of 29 shots and kept the Pats within striking distance throughout the night.
After a slow opening 20 minutes, the Pats surged in the second and third period, outshooting the Americans and pulling within one when Ruslan Karimov buried his third of the season just three minutes into the final frame. Regina finished with a 39–29 edge in shots but went 0-for-5 on the power play, while remaining perfect on the penalty kill at 2-for-2.
The Pats’ PK continues to be a bright spot — they are now 16-for-16 over their last five games, one of their best shorthanded stretches of the season.
Seattle enters tonight on a roll, picking up points in four straight games (3-0-1) after a 7–4 win over the Victoria Royals on Friday.
The T-Birds’ offence exploded in that one, led by Coster Dunn, who recorded a four-point night (3G–1A). Antonio Martorana chipped in four assists, while Brock England, Braeden Cootes, and Colton Gerrior added the rest of the scoring. In goal, Grayson Malinoski made 19 saves to secure the win.
Seattle has been finding its groove offensively, scoring 22 goals over their last four games, averaging 5.5 per game during their recent streak.
WHO TO WATCH
20-year-old defenceman Rylan Pearce continues to settle in with the Pats and made his presence felt last night in Tri-City, recording his first point as a Pat with a primary assist. The steady right-shot blueliner was acquired last Friday from the Everett Silvertips and brings valuable experience to Regina’s back end—especially on this U.S. Division swing.
Pearce is no stranger to the buildings and opponents south of the border, having spent parts of four seasons in the U.S. Division with Everett. This year, he’s produced eight points (4G–4A) in 18 games, showcasing reliability at both ends of the ice. Over his time in Everett, Pearce appeared in 154 regular season games (12G–29A–41PTS) along with 22 playoff contests, giving the Pats a composed, veteran presence during a critical road stretch.
COMING UP
The Pats finish their weekend action on Saturday, November 22 at 8:05 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds. They’ll then kick off the second half of their U.S. road trip on Wednesday, November 26 at 9:00 p.m. with a matchup against the Everett Silvertips.
