PREVIEW: Pats look for bounce back after win streak halted
REGINA – Coming off some of their best hockey of the season, and then a 20-minute lapse, the Regina Pats look to return to the win column Friday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors at 8 p.m. inside the Brandt Centre.
The Pats enter the night after seeing their win streak ended Thursday night with a 4-2 loss to the Swift Current Broncos. A flat third period was enough to halt the Pats’ winning ways, as the Broncos picked up their fifth win of the season. Prior to that, Regina won back-to-back games against the Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades respectively.

Now, the Regiment will need to bounce back in short order with their final matchup of the season against the Warriors. If the previous three meetings are any indication, Friday will be an entertaining one inside the Brandt Centre.
All three previous Subway WHL Hub meetings have gone past regulation, with Moose Jaw taking a game in overtime and most recently shootout. Regina’s win came in overtime when Layton Feist scored the winner.
Both teams head into the contest in the midst of a three-horse race for fourth in the division standings. Regina is tied with the Raiders with 19 points, while the Warriors are just a point back. All three teams have three games remaining, with the Hub set to come to an end on Wednesday, April 28.

- Ryker Evans enters the night tied for the WHL lead in defencemen scoring with 25 points. He is looking to become the first Pat to end the season as the WHL’s leading d-man scorer since Connor Hobbs had 85 points in 2016-17.
- Speaking of history, Carson Denomie could be the first Pat since Dale Derkatch in 1982-83 to end the season as the WHL’s leading goal scorer. Denomie sits first (14G) with three games to play. Derkatch had 84 in 67 games.
- Logan Nijhoff has stepped up his offensive game this season, averaging .81 points per game. That’s a significant jump from his 18-year-old season when he averaged .56 and finished the season with 16 goals and 18 assists.
- Moose Jaw skates into the night as the least penalized team in the Hub with 210 PIM.
