PREVIEW
The Regina Pats play the second game of their three game homestand, and the second game against the Rebels this season. The last time these two teams met was on January 4 in Red Deer, with the Pats winning 4-3 in overtime.
The Pats are coming off a 7-3 loss to the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday at the Brandt Centre. Zach Moore, Zachary Lansard and Dayton Deschamps scored for the Pats while both Kelton Pyne and Ewan Huet split action. Pyne allowed four goals in the opening period on 12 shots. Ewan Huet played the final 40 minutes and allowed just three goals on 30 shots. The final shots were 42-29 as the Pats were outshot for the first time in eight games. The Pats were 0-1 on their power play and 2-3 on their penalty kill.
The Red Deer Rebels have dropped their last nine games (0-7-2) after a 3-0 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday at home. That marked the fifth shutout loss this season. Chase Wutzke got the start in net, allowing three goals on 36 shots. The Raiders outshot the Rebels 36-22. Prince Albert was 1-4 on their power play while Red Deer was 0-4 on their man-advantage.
WHO TO WATCH
For the Pats, Cohen Klassen has four points in his last four games (2G-2A) since scoring his first WHL goal on January 4 at Red Deer in a multi-point game (1G-1A).
Three players are tied for the team lead in points this season with Jaxson Fuder, Ty Coupland and Matthew Gard all with 21 points each. Coupland was just recently acquired from the Swift Current Broncos on January 9, and played his 100th WHL game on Saturday.
COMING UP
The Regina Pats finish up their three game homestand with a Friday night matchup against the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Brandt Centre. The Pats next home game will be on Saturday, January 25 against the Prince Albert Raiders. That comes after a three game road trip through Alberta where the Club will take on Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.
