WHAT’S HAPPENING
It’s Western Night! The first 1000 fans into the Brandt Centre will receive a special edition Pats themed cowboy foam hat! The Pats will also have a mechanical bull on site for fans to ride throughout the game!
PREVIEW
The Regina Pats battle the Brandon Wheat Kings in the third of eight meetings this season. The Last time these two teams met was on September 21 at the Brandt Centre, with the Wheat Kings taking away a 5-1 win.
The Pats are 0-5-1 over their last six games, and are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday. The Pats had a 2-1 lead in the second period before the Raiders tallied two goals late to take a 3-2 lead into the third. Then in the third, Zackary Shantz would tie the game, helping the Pats gather the extra-point. John Babcock tallied two assists, Kelton Pyne made 28 saves, and Braxton Whitehead and Cole Temple picked up goals. The shots were 44-32 for the Pats, and 19-8 for Regina in the final 25 minutes. The Pats were 1-3 on their power play and 2-4 on their penalty kill.
Meanwhile, the Brandon Wheat Kings are 4-0-1 over their last five games, and are coming off a 3-0 win over the powerhouse Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday at home. Carson Bjarnason made 33 saves for his first shutout of the season, and sixth of his career. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect helped Brandon to their second straight win, stopping 11 shots in the first, 16 in the second and six in the third. Caleb Hadland, Quinn Mantei and Dominik Petr scored for the Wheat Kings. The final shots were 38-33 for Brandon. The Wheat Kings were 0-4 on their power play and 3-3 on their penalty kill.
WHO TO WATCH
For the Pats, Cole Temple (1G-2A) and Jaxsin Vaughan (1G-2A) are each riding three game point-streaks for Regina heading into tonight’s game. In addition, Anthony Wilson has points in two of his last three games (2G-1A).
For the Wheat Kings, 20-year-old forward Marcus Nguyen has 17 points (8G-9A) in 14 games, which leads the Brandon squad. The Calgary product has points in back-to-back games (1G-2A) as well as points in five of his last six contests (5G-4A-9PTS).
