GAME PREVIEW
The Pats enter the contest playing their best hockey of the season, winning five of their last eight games (5-2-0-1) since a slow 1-6-1 start. Over that stretch, Regina has outscored opponents 35-33 and picked up key wins over Calgary, Moose Jaw, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Brandon. The Blue and White now sit eighth in the Eastern Conference with 14 points and continue to climb the standings as their confidence builds.
The Pats are coming off a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night. Keets Fawcett scored twice, including the tying goal late in the third and the game-winner in overtime. Reese Hamilton (1G-1A) and Zach Lansard (2A) each chipped in multi-point efforts, while Julien Maze added his ninth of the season. Marek Schlenker stood tall with 27 saves. Regina’s penalty kill was perfect (5-for-5), helping them erase a two-goal deficit for their fourth comeback win of the season.
Red Deer, meanwhile, comes into Regina looking to rebound from a 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday. The Rebels have dropped three of their last four games since defeating the Pats 5-2 back on October 24. Sitting at 5-10-0-2, Red Deer is looking to regain traction after missing the playoffs last season for the first time since the pandemic, finishing ninth in the East with a 26-34-6-2 record and 60 points.
This matchup continues a trend of tight contests between the two teams. Since the 2019-20 season, 17 of the last 20 meetings have been decided by two goals or fewer, with the Pats holding a 9-8-2-1 record over that span. Last year’s season series was split 2-2-0, and two of those four games were decided by just one goal.
WHO TO WATCH
#18 Keets Fawcett — The Grimshaw, Alta. product has been red hot, scoring 10 goals and 15 points (10G-5A) in 15 games this season after tallying just 10 goals in 63 games last year. Fawcett has seven goals and three assists over his last nine games and six points (4G-2A) in his last three contests.
#11 Ellis Mieyette — The rookie forward enters tonight’s matchup on a five-game point streak, recording two goals and three assists during that stretch. The 19-year-old has produced 13 points (5G-8A) in 15 games this season and owns a +4 plus-minus rating, providing steady two-way play in the Pats’ top six.
#3 Ephram McNutt — The Pats’ captain has been a force on the back end, leading all Regina defencemen in scoring with 14 points (3G-11A) in 16 games. McNutt has 10 points over his last 10 games, finding the scoresheet in eight of those contests, and recorded his first career multi-goal game on October 18 against Brandon.
#21 Zach Lansard — The sophomore forward has already set a new career high with eight goals this season. The St. Anne, Man. product is on a four-game point streak (3G-4A), totaling seven points during that stretch, and continues to be a consistent offensive presence for the Blue Brigade.
COMING UP
The Pats continue their three-game weekend Saturday afternoon in Moose Jaw (2:30 p.m.) before returning home Sunday to host the Swift Current Broncos at 2:00 p.m. The busy schedule continues next week with home games against Medicine Hat (Nov. 14) and Moose Jaw (Nov. 15).
