GAME PREVIEW
The Regina Pats wrap up a busy three-in-three weekend Sunday afternoon against the Swift Current Broncos, who are also finishing a stretch of three games in as many days.
The Pats (7-9-1-1) are coming off a strong 6-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, improving to 6-3-0-1 over their last 10 contests. Caden Brown led the charge with a career-high five points (3G-2A) and his second hat trick of the season, while sophmore goaltender Marek Schlenker made 36 saves — his most in a WHL win. Zach Moore’s first of the season broke a 3-3 tie early in the third, and Regina went on to fire a season-high 41 shots in the victory.
Ellis Mieyette chipped in two assists, extending his point streak to seven games (2G-6A) as the Pats continue to build momentum in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The Broncos (7-9-1-0) sit just one point behind Regina for the final playoff spot, entering Sunday fresh off a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday. Goaltender Joey Rocha was stellar with 37 saves, while defenceman Jace McFaul posted a career-best three points (1G-2A). The victory snapped Swift Current’s seven-game skid dating back to October 18.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the East Division rivals, with the season series tied 1-1. Swift Current took the season opener 4-3, before Regina responded with a 4-2 win on October 4.
Both teams will be looking to close out the weekend on a high note in what promises to be a spirited afternoon matchup at the Brandt Centre.
WHO TO WATCH
Pats 20-year-old forward Caden Brown is coming off a career night, recording his second hat trick of the season and a personal-best five points (3G-2A) in Saturday’s win over Moose Jaw. The veteran winger has been on a roll offensively, picking up points in four straight games (3G-4A) and providing consistent scoring punch for the Pats’ top six.
COMING UP
The Regina Pats wrap up their homestand next weekend with games against the Medicine Hat Tigers (Nov. 14) and Moose Jaw Warriors (Nov. 15) at the Brandt Centre. After that, the Pats hit the road for a six-game U.S. trip, beginning November 19 in Spokane.
