PREVIEW: Pats begin pre-season with rookie tilt against Broncos
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats open up their 2024 pre-season schedule with a tilt against the Swift Current Broncos at 7pm inside the Brandt Centre.
Tonight’s battle marks the first of five pre-season contests this September as the Pats prepare for their season opener on Sept. 20 at Prince Albert and their home opener on Sept. 21 vs. Brandon.
The Pats wrapped up their 2024 Training Camp on Monday with their annual Blue vs. White game, where Team White won 5-1 thanks to a two goal performance from Sam Oremba and a three point effort from Cole Temple (1G-2A). In addition, Tye Spencer (2A), Braden Hordichuk (2A), Jaxsin Vaughan (2A) and Thayne Wasyluk (1G-1A) also had multi-point performances.

The Pats will be broadcasting all of their pre-season home games on WHL Live as well as two pre-season games on radio. Dante De Caria will have the call on 620 CKRM of the Pats pre-season contests against the Brandon Wheat Kings on September 13 and 14.
MATCH UP
Tonight’s matchup between these two inter-provincial rivals will see younger lineups, as both the Pats and Broncos will be dressing rookies for this battle.
There are currently 36 players on the Pats pre-season roster, which sees 20 returning players from the Pats 2023-24 squad that finished 22-40-4-2 with 50 points. Meanwhile, the Swift Current Broncos currently have 15 players returning from last years club that finished second in the Eastern Conference with 86 points (40-22-4-2). The Broncos reached the second round of the 2024 WHL Playoffs following a first round sweep of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In round two, the Broncos fell in five games to the eventual WHL Champion Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Pats have 15 rookies on their pre-season roster that sees some of their recent draft picks such as Aiden Wagner, Drake Mooney, Sam Failler, Mathis Paull and Cohen Handby. All four of those players signed with the Pats following the organizations spring development camp in June.
