PREVIEW
The Regina Pats will look to build on their impressive 4–2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos as they return home tonight to face the Vancouver Giants. The Pats have been idle throughout the week, using the time to fine-tune their game and prepare for a busy weekend against B.C. opponents. The schedule will ramp up quickly from here, with matchups against Prince Albert and Brandon slated for next weekend.
Reflecting on last Saturday’s win, the Pats received strong offensive contributions across the lineup. Ellis Mieyette (1G-1A), Keets Fawcett (1G-1A) and Maddox Schultz (2A) each recorded multi-point efforts, while Zach Lansard and Julien Maze also found the back of the net. Between the pipes, goaltender Marek Schlenker turned aside 30 shots to earn the victory — his first of the season. Regina’s special teams were a key factor as well, with the power play going 2-for-6 and the penalty kill holding strong at 4-for-5. Shots finished even at 32 apiece.
A major key to Saturday’s success was the Pats’ ability to respond early. Although they surrendered the game’s opening goal less than a minute in, the Blue Brigade stormed back with three straight tallies before the end of the first period, setting the tone for the rest of the night. Heading into tonight’s contest, both Julien Maze and Ellis Mieyette are riding three-game goal streaks.
Maze leads the Pats with seven points (3G-4A) through five games, while Cohen Klassen sits close behind with six points (1G-5A) in as many contests. The club will look to continue building chemistry and momentum on home ice before a demanding stretch of games next week.
On the other side, the Vancouver Giants close out their six-game Eastern Division road trip this evening. Last season, Vancouver finished sixth in the Western Conference with a 24-26-8-0 record and 76 points, before falling to the Spokane Chiefs in the opening round of the WHL Playoffs. The Giants have reached the postseason in each of the past four seasons, and in six of the last seven years the playoffs have been held.
Vancouver is led by Dallas Stars prospect Cameron Schmidt and dynamic defenceman Ryan Lin, who is currently ranked 11th among 2026 NHL Draft prospects by TSN’s Craig Button. The Giants’ roster also features eight former first-round WHL Prospects Draft selections, highlighting the club’s impressive depth and strong foundation of young talent.
