Pats Unveil New Season Theme At Saturday Home Opener
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats are off to a 2-0 start following a 5-1 victory on Saturday over the Saskatoon Blades in the 2023 home opener.
As part of a Regina Pats opening night tradition, the team has unveiled its new season theme: IGNITE.
“Regina has played host to some of the best junior hockey talent in the world for more than a century – longer than any other city,” said Queen City Sports & Entertainment CEO, Gord Pritchard. “Over the years, those players had a huge role in building our proud legacy, but it takes more than talented players to create something like that. It starts with strong support from local hockey fans, and the Pats regiment is the best anywhere. It requires a strong organization, working hard behind the scenes to help the team bring another Memorial Cup victory to the Queen City. That means people like our coaches, hockey and business staff, our game day crew and facility managers, and the many community partners who work with us to make game day an exciting event, week after week.”
Throughout the evening, the team demonstrated that the IGNITE theme is as much a celebration of the Pats regiment off the ice as it is about the players’ burning desire to be the best on the ice. As proof, the Pats announced that they will add a number of new elements to their game day experience, over the course of the season, including:
- The Community Torch Bearer – a member of the Pats community will carry a ceremonial torch to centre ice as part of the pre-game ceremony for every Saturday game throughout the season and select speciality games. At Saturday’s game, former Pats captain, Logan Nijhoff, had the honour of carrying on this tradition.
- Pats Family Profiles – the Pats will shine the spotlight on some of the important people in the team’s past (and present) that have played a key role in building the team’s impressive legacy.
- Ignite the Community Game – On January 6th, 2024, the Pats will host their ‘Ignite the Community’ game, an event wholly focussed on celebrating the citizens of Regina, including key members of the Pats community.
Additional events and activations will be announced by the team throughout the season to encourage fans to band together, igniting their passion in pursuit of the team’s next Memorial Cup win.
“We may be the ones you see out there on the ice, but none of this is possible without the support of our amazing organization and the many Pats fans that have rallied the regiment here in Regina for so many years,” added Pats Captain, Tanner Howe. “There is not a single junior hockey club in the world that has had committed fans cheering them on for as long as the Pats. It’s something that I and the rest of the team never take for granted.”
The next Pats home game is on Wednesday when they take on the rival Moose Jaw Warriors at the Brandt centre. To ignite your passion, visit reginapats.com to pick your seat!
