Pats select four players in day two of 2025 WHL Prospects Draft
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats completed the remainder of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday, selecting four players after taking a trio of forwards in the first round on Wednesday.
The Pats opened the WHL Prospects Draft on Wednesday with the selections of forwards Maddox Schultz (first overall), Liam Pue (3rd overall) and Logan Henry (23rd overall).
On day two, the Pats selected two defencemen in the second round, drafting Cruz Nicolay (27th overall) and Charlie Leonard (46th overall). The Pats wrapped up the draft with the selections of forward Mahlon Wiley (89th overall) and goaltender Dawson Sheehan (120th overall).
Nicolay, 15, is a 6-foot-1, 164 lb. left-shot defenceman who tallied 32 points (12G-20A) in 34 games with the Red Deer Rebels U15 AAA Club in 2024-25, winning a AEHL U15 Championship, as well as being named to the AEHL U15 Second All-Star Team. The St. Albert, Alta. product also picked up eight points (3G-5A) in five games at the John Reid Memorial Tournament.
Leonard, 15, took home a lot of hardware during the 2024-25 season as the Calgary, Alta. product was named to the CSSHL U15 Second All-Star Team (BC), as well as to the John Reid Memorial Second All-Star Team, recording 34 points (7G-27A) in 34 games with Delta Hockey Academy U15 Prep. The 6-foot-1, 186 lb. left-shot defenceman helped Delta’s U15 program win a U15 Championship.
Wiley, 15, recorded 41 points (22G-19A) in 24 games with the Sask East Oilers U15 AA team in 2024-25, which led his Club in all offensive categories. The Yorkton, Sask. product is signed to play for the Regina Pat Canadians in the 2025-26 season. The 6-foot-1, 175 lb. left-shot forward was called up for seven games with the Yorkton Maulers U18 AAA team last season, picking up four points (1G-3A).
Sheehan, 14, played for the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep program in 2024-25, going 16-2-0 with a 2.34 G.A.A and .897 SV% with two shutouts. The Beaumont, Alta. product is listed at 5-foot-11 and 147 lb.
