Pats Ink Defenceman Laplante
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats Hockey Club is pleased to announce the signing of 2007-born defenceman Samuel Laplante to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“Sam is a big kid who has shown steady improvement since we drafted him,” Regina Pats GM and Head Coach John Paddock said. “He looks like he can be a regular defenceman in the WHL.”
Laplante, 16, tallied 21 points (5G-16A) in 30 games in 2022-23 with IHA U17 Prep, as well as two points (1G-1A) in four contests with IHA U18 Prep. The Okotoks, Alta. product is a right-handed defenceman who is listed at 6-foot-1, 165 lb. He was selected by the Pats in the seventh round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
“Give credit to Sam. I think he’s done his part since we drafted him,” Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin said. “He’s a young guy who’s always in the gym trying to get stronger and judging by this spring camp, he has in the last year. He’s continued to work on his agility and mobility. We really like his upside.”
The Regina Pats organization would like to officially welcome Samuel and his family to the Pats and to the City of Regina.
