Pats Alumnus Mahura signs with Kraken
SEATTLE, Wash. – Today, the Seattle Kraken announced that they have agreed to terms with former Pats defenseman Josh Mahura to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000 (AAV).
“Josh is a veteran defenseman who adds depth and experience to our blue line,” said Seattle Kraken General Manager, Ron Francis in a team release. “He will be a welcome addition to our group as we look forward to next season.”
Mahura, 26, helped the Panthers to the third most points in the Eastern Conference, going 52-24-6-2 with 110 points, which was first in the Atlantic Division. Mahura served as a black ace during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs and did lift the cup, joining his team on the ice for the celebration following a game seven win over the Edmonton Oilers for their first championship in franchise history.
The St. Albert, Alta. product had nine points (0G-9A) in 30 games this past season with the Panthers after recording 16 points (4G-12A) in 82 games last season. The 6-foot, 190 lb. left-shot defenceman also helped the Panthers reach the 2023 Stanley Cup Final as well, playing in 21 playoff games (0G-3A) before losing in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Mahura was acquired by Regina Pats from the Red Deer Rebels during the 2016-17 season. In the 2017-18 season, he tallied 69 points (22G-47A) in 60 games. He was named to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Memorial Cup All-Star Team and the WHL East Second All-Star team in 2017-18. He represented Canada in the 2015-16 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, winning a gold medal with the team. Mahura was originally drafted in the third round (85th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2016 NHL Draft.
The Kraken now have five Pats Alumni in their organization as Mahura joins Jordan Eberle, Chandler Stephenson, Ryker Evans and Cale Fleury.
