Pats Alumnus Evans to represent Canada at Men’s Worlds
Regina, Sask. – Regina Pats Alumnus and Seattle Kraken defenceman Ryker Evans was one of the first 15 players selected to Canada’s roster ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark.
The initial roster, which includes one goaltender, five defencemen and nine forwards, was selected by general manager Kyle Dubas (Sault Ste. Marie, ON/Pittsburgh, NHL), player relations advisor Ryan Getzlaf (Regina, SK) and Scott Salmond (Creston, BC), senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations.
Evans, 23, has never represented Canada on the international stage throughout his junior and professional career. The Calgary, Alta. product tallied 25 points (5G-20A) across 73 games in 2024-25 after splitting he 2023-24 season between the Coachella Valley Firebirds and Kraken. Last season, the second year Kraken defender recorded nine points (1G-8A) in 36 games with Seattle, and 15 points (2G-13A) in 25 games with their AHL affiliate.
Evans spent four seasons with the Pats (2018-2022), recording 25 goals, 106 assists for 131 points in 195 career games, ranking 13th in franchise history in assists amongst defencemen and 19th in points.
The 6-foot, 192 lb. left-shot defenceman joins fellow Kraken blueliner Brandon Montour on Canada’s roster.
Roster additions will be announced in the coming weeks pending the results of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs.
Canada will open the 2025 IIHF World Championship against Slovenia on May 10 at 6:20 a.m. ET/3:20 a.m. PT. It will also take on Latvia, France, Austria, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden in the preliminary round before the tournament concludes with the medal games on May 25. Prior to the start of the tournament, Canada’s National Men’s Team will play pre-tournament games against in Vienna against Austria on May 4 and in Budapest against Hungary on May 6.
