Kai Zurowski | 2008 Goaltender | Northern Alberta Xtreme U17
Zurowski, 16, went 9-5-0 with a 3.43 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage with one shutout in 15 appearances in 2023-24. The St. Albert, Alta. product went 10-1 with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage with two shutouts with the St. Albert Sabres in 2022-23, and was later drafted in the ninth round by the Pats in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. The 5-foot-11, 161 lb. goaltender also played for Team Alberta Gold at the Alberta Cup.
“He’s a big body goaltender and he seems to want to be a Regina Pat. He trains the right way and wants to be a player. He’s one of these young goaltenders who has some size and he just needs to keep developing his craft. Is he ready to step in at 16, probably not but hopefully he can play U18 AAA next year and keep developing. There is things to like in his game and he just has to keep improving.” Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Hudson Kowalchuk | 2008 Defenceman | Winnipeg Wild U18 AAA
Kowalchuk, 15, had 32 points (12G-20A) in 44 games with the Wild in 2022-23, leading all defencemen on his team in goals, assists and points. The Winnipeg, Man. product was tied for second in the Manitoba U18 Hockey League in goals, while ranking eighth in points. Drafted in the fourth round by the Pats in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, The 5-foot-11, 162 lb. left-shot defenceman spent the 2022-23 season with the Winnipeg Wild Red U15 AAA program, totalling 31 points (2G-29A) in 22 contests. He also played for Team Manitoba at the 2017-18 Brick Invitational scoring a goal in seven games.
“He’s a player who gets around the ice really well. He has good agility but he just has to get stronger and he’s stretching up through six-feet now. He played on a pretty good team in Winnipeg being used in all situations. He quarterbacked the power play and played a lot of minutes. His coach thought highly of him, giving him the minutes he deserved. He’s got some offensive instincts and he’s going to be a really good sized kid down the road.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Kohen Volk | 2008 Defenceman | Saskatoon Contacts U18 AAA
Volk, 16, tallied 10 points (1G-9A) in 43 games in 2023-24 with the Contacts. The 5-foot-10, 163 lb. right-shot defenceman hails from Saskatoon Sask. and played for the Saskatoon Bandits U15 AA team in 2022-23, picking up 26 points (8G-18A) in 30 contests. He was drafted by the Pats in the sixth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
“I caught up to him during the winter and he’s just a kid that has to get to spring camp so the staff can have a look at him and give him some feedback. He seems to have some hardness in his game, whether that translates to our level, it’s hard to say. His dad played the game so there is some bloodlines there. I think he’s in a good program with the Contacts. He just has to keep evolving and developing.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Dain Gordon
Gordon, 16, finished with 81 points (39G-42A) in 69 games with Bishop Kearney Selects 15U AAA club, leading his club in all offensive categories. The Denver, Colorado product was drafted by the Pats in the 10th round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft after the 6-foot-1, 172 lb. right-shot forward recorded 75 points (31G-44A) in 72 games with the Bishop Kearney Selects 14U AAA team.
“From speaking to his father in the last week, they seem to be on the NCAA development path moving forward. He’s waiting for the USHL Draft on May 6 and the NCAA commitment window in August. He didn’t make the U.S. Development Program so we think there might be an outside chance. Things do change in this game. He sounds like a player who can play at the WHL level. When I spoke to his father, I just said to come to Regina and have a look.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Carter Haney | 2008 Forward | RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U17
Haney, 16, was named U17 Prep Tier 2 First Team All-Star. The Winnipeg, Man. product tallied 48 points (24G-24A) in 30 games this past season, leading his team in scoring. The 5-foot-9, 161 lb. right-shot forward was drafted by the Pats in the sixth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
“Our scouts in Manitoba caught up to him this winter and liked what they saw. He’s starting to grow a bit and he has some touch with the puck, he can make plays and he’s good in tight areas. I think he’s developing the way we thought he would. He has some good offensive instincts in his game. He’s in a good situation with the Rink Hockey Academy, although I’m not sure where he will be playing next year. He has a chance and all indications are that he wants to play for the Regina Pats in time.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Tegan Kurtz 2008 Forward | Winnipeg Wild U18 AAA
Kurtz, 15, produced 18 points (7G-11A) in 41 games in 2023-24 with the Wild. Last season, Kurtz produced 39 points (13G-26A) in 31 games in with the Winnipeg Wild Gold U15 AAA club. The Winnipeg, Man. product was drafted by the Pats in the 11th round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
“He’s going to be big enough and strong enough. His dad played the game so he can provide feedback and guidance on training and things like that. His size is not going to be an issue, it’s just how he continues to develop. He handled U18 AAA well this year, whether that was the right decision, we don’t have a crystal ball so I don’t know. He’s shown signs of improvement, he just has to continue to develop, get quicker, work on his puck skills and things like that.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Blake Kiley-Ram | 2008 Forward | Rocky Mountain Roughriders 15U
Kiley-Ram, 15, totaled 41 points (21G-20A) in 48 games in 2023-24. The Scottsdale, Arizona product was drafted by the Pats in the second round pick of the 2023 U.S. Priority Draft after recording 74 points (26G-48A) in 49 games in 2022-23 with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 14U AAA team. The 5-foot-9, 134 lb. right-shot forward scored 58 points (16G-42A) in 46 games during the 2021-22 season with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 13U AAA club.
“He ended up getting injured in January or February, and things are coming along. When you talk to him, he’s full of energy and he wants to get back to Regina and he wants to play in the WHL if he’s ever capable. He’s a little undersized coming in, which a lot of guys are when you draft them for the most part. Despite being undersized, he plays with a lot of edge in his game. We have to see once he gets to camp if he’s taken a step with all the other 08’s.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Maddox Malmquist | 2008 Forward | Winnipeg Thrashers U18 AAA
Malmquist, 15, led the Thrashers in goals (29) and ranked second on his team in points (53) in 44 games in 2023-24. The East St. Paul, Man. product was drafted in the eighth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft after he recorded 48 points (20G-28A) in 27 games in 2022-23 with RHA Winnipeg, leading his team in points, while tied for first in goals. 5-foot-7, 137 lb. left-shot forward also competed for Team Manitoba at the 2017-18 Brick Invitational, adding seven points (4G-3A) in seven games.
“He was a go to guy with the Thrashers this past season and his coach loved him. He’s good in tight areas, has a good feel for the game, and he seems to get to the inside of the ice which is hard to do. As a bit of an undersized guy when we drafted him, he seems to be stretching up. He has offensive instincts so I think he’s got a chance to be a top-nine forward, and maybe a top-six forward in time. When that is, it’s a tough call.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
Parker Trottier | 2008 Forward | Shattuck St. Mary’s 16U AAA
Trottier, 16, tallied 26 points (13G-13A) in 46 games this past season. The Edina, Minnesota product is committed to play for the U.S National U17 Team, and was drafted by the Pats with the 12th pick of the 2023 U.S. Priority Draft, finishing the 2022-23 season with 88 points (43G-45A) in 56 games with the Shattuck St. Mary’s 14U AAA program, where he was second on his team in goals and fourth in points. The 6-foot, 165 lb. left-shot forward is also the grandson of Hockey Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier who hails from Val Marie, Sask.
“All indications are that he’s developing the way we thought he would. He’s now with the U.S. National Development Program, and he looks like a player who is going to play lots with that team. He looks like a pro to me, but that’s yet to be seen. Maybe you need help from a pro team down the road. He’s a top-six player that you can build a team around. He’s a power forward and he would be a solid player if he ever came our way. Things change in hockey so you never know.” – Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin.
