RELEASE: Oil Kings trade goaltender Jake Pilon to Kelowna
September 11, 2023 (Edmonton, AB) – The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired a 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for 2006-born goaltender Jake Pilon, the Club announced today.
Pilon, 16, was originally drafted by the Oil Kings in the eighth round, 177th overall, in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
Last season, the Calgary, AB product helped the U18 AAA Calgary Flames capture the AEHL championship and earn a berth in the 2023 Telus Cup.
Pilon appeared in one pre-season game for the Oil Kings this season stopping 20 of 23 shots in 40 minutes of action against the Calgary Hitmen.
The Oil Kings thank Jake for his contributions to the organization both on and off the ice and wish him the best of luck with his new opportunity.
In addition, the Oil Kings have also announced they have reassigned the following 2008-born players to their minor hockey Clubs:
- F Joe Iginla (RINK Kelowna, U18 Prep)
- F Cage Smith (RINK Kelowna, U18 Prep)
- D Josh Lee (Delta Hockey Academy, U18 Prep)
- D Noa Ta’amu (OHA Penticton, U18 Prep)

The Oil Kings wrap up their pre-season schedule this weekend when they travel to Grande Cache, AB to take on the Prince George Cougars Friday, September 15 and Sunday, September 17. All proceeds from both games are in support of Grande Cache Minor Hockey.
The Oil Kings return to Rogers Place for their 2023-24 Home Opener on Saturday, September 23 when they play host to the Red Deer Rebels at 7:00 PM.
