Ladislav Smid
Ladislav Smid was hired as a Development Coach with the Edmonton Oil Kings ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
Smid announced his retirement from his 17-year professional hockey playing career in the summer of 2022 after spending his final five seasons playing with Liberec Bili Tygri HC in the top professional league in his native country of Czechia.
The Frydlant, Czechia product was drafted into the NHL in the first round, ninth overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in 2004. He was subsequently traded to the Edmonton Oilers in July 2006 and would go onto play 474 games with the club over eight seasons.
Smid finished his NHL career suiting up in 109 games with the Calgary Flames over parts of three seasons from 2013-2016.
He has also played internationally on several occasions, representing Czechia at three World Junior Championships (2004, 2005 and 2006), two World Hockey Championships (2007 and 2013) and one Olympic Games (2014).
Smid is also an Assistant Coach with Czechia’s U20 program.
