RECAP: Oil Kings Fall to Tigers to Cap off Season-Opening Trip
Medicine Hat, Alta. – The Edmonton Oil Kings fell to 0-2-0-0 on the year after a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night.
The Oil Kings only had seven shots in the first period, but there were some good scoring chances for the Oil Kings, including a two-on-one that didn’t quite get finished off, and a disallowed goal that took more than a couple minutes for video review. However, it was the Tigers that got on the board three times in the first with goals from Liam and Marcus Ruck, as well as Matt Paranych.
The Oil Kings kept fighting in the second and dropped the deficit to two with Lukas Sawchyn’s first goal in the WHL, but the Tigers got one back Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll just a few minutes later to make it 4-1 after two.
In the third, the Oil Kings had 10 shots on goal but were only able to get one to cross the goal line late in the game as Joe Iginla scored on the powerplay, finishing off a Gavin Hodnett pass at the side of the net. Although that was all the Oil Kings could get as they dropped the 4-2 decision.
Alex Worthington stopped 37 of 41 in his first game in the WHL since October of 2022 for Edmonton, while Ethan McCallum stopped 23 of 25 for Medicine Hat.
The Oil Kings were also 1-for-6 on the powerplay, while the Tigers were 0-for-2.
The Oil Kings are back in action on Saturday, September 28 as they take on the Calgary Hitmen at Rogers Place.
