Cam Tait Previews 18th Annual Teddy Bear Toss
Written by: Cam Tait
’Twas the night before Toss Day, and all through the city,
Edmonton was buzzing—loud, proud, and gritty.
Bears fluffed to the max, every button-eye gleaming,
Just waiting to launch in a plushy daydreaming.
The Oil Kings were dialed in, blades sharpened bright,
The Raiders rolled up like, “Yeah, we’re ready to fight.”
A Sunday at four? Prime time, no stress—
Perfect for unleashing a blizzard of softness.
The jerseys? Chef’s kiss. Pure Edmonton flair.
So flashy that Santa said, “Hey—leave me a pair.”
They’ll auction them after—blink once, they’re gone—
All for Santas Anonymous, holiday strong.
Kevin Radomski boomed with a grin ear-to-ear,
“This game’s the highlight—the crown of our year.
Tickets from twenty—go grab a great seat,
And brace yourselves, folks…
when that first goal hits the sheet.”
Last season Gracyn Sawchyn fired—PING! Off it went—
And 15,458 bears took flight in ascent.
A maelstrom of fluff (the kind you don’t shovel),
A storm you can love without freezing your stubble.
The Brick’s been the backbone through every bear flood—
Raising two hundred grand—sweet philanthropic good.
Kim Kennedy grinned, “It’s our favourite sight—
Bears soaring like snowballs in full winter flight!”
So gather your teddies—big, tiny, absurd,
In scarves, tiny hoodies, or shades like a nerd.
Bag them in clear plastic—give volunteers a clue,
So they’ll know if yours is a bear or a penguin askew.
Forgot your bear? Don’t fret. Don’t collapse.
Brickley Bear’s waiting with wide-open flaps.
Twenty bucks gets you fluff, goodwill, and a smile—
And permission to cheer like it’s been a long while.
And since it’s a Sunday, the Carnival’s roaring!
Face paint! Bouncy castles! Kids sugar-soaring!
Pure festive mayhem—the family event
That makes even Santa rethink his descent.
So warm up your mitts and polish your throw—
The countdown is on to the teddy-bear snow.
And when that lamp flashes red, bright as daylight…
BOOM.
The fluff takes flight—
Like Santa blew open his sleigh mid-night.
A spectacle of silliness, charity, and cheer—
Only in Edmonton.
