Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced the signing of 2011-born defenceman Evan Cuthbertson to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely excited to sign with the Hurricanes. Playing in the WHL has always been a dream of mine and getting the opportunity to do that in Lethbridge makes it even better. It\u2019s a great hockey city with passionate fans, and I can\u2019t wait to be part of that environment,\u201d said Cuthbertson. \u201cSigning a WHL Player Agreement means a lot to me and my family. It represents years of hard work, sacrifice, and support finally paying off. My family has been with me through early\u2011morning practices, long road trips, injuries, and every high and low along the way, so this moment feels like something we achieved together. For me, it\u2019s the first real step toward chasing my dream of playing in the NHL, and for my family, it\u2019s a proud milestone knowing that all the time, effort, and belief they invested in me helped make this possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuthbertson, 15, was selected by the Hurricanes in the third-round (58th<\/sup> overall) in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. The Kamloops, British Columbia, product appeared in 16 regular season games with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team where he amassed 12 points (2g-10a) along with six penalty minutes. He also skated in one regular season game with the Yale U17 Prep team during the 2025-2026 season where he was held pointless.<\/p>\n

The 6\u20190, 165-pound rearguard represented Team Black at the 2026 BC Cup tournament where he registered two penalty minutes in four contests. Cuthbertson also appeared in four games at the John Reid Memorial Tournament being held pointless. In 2024-2025, Cuthbertson collected 21 points (6g-15a) along with two penalty minutes in 16 games with the Thompson Blazers U15 AAA team while adding three points (1g-2a) in five post-season games.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s something I\u2019ve been working toward for a long time, and getting the chance to be on the ice with WHL players and coaches is a huge step in my development. I\u2019m looking forward to competing, learning, and showing that I belong at that level. Cuthbertson joins Artello Forestal and Ronan Gow as the three players from the 2026 WHL Draft to sign WHL Scholarship and Development agreements with the Hurricanes.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced that 2009-born goaltender Leif Oaten has been named by Hockey Canada to the Canadian National Men\u2019s Summer Under-18 Team Training Camp for the upcoming 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.<\/p>\n

Oaten, 16, was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the third-round (58th<\/sup> overall) in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. The Calgary, Alberta, product recorded a 6-19-2-0 record with a 4.23 goals-against average and a .876 save percentage with one shutout in 31 regular season games during his rookie season in 2025-2026. Prior to joining the \u2018Canes, Oaten appeared in 19 regular season games during the 2024-2025 season with the Edge Hockey Academy posted a record of 11-7-1 with a 2.42 GAA and a .922 SV% with two shutouts.<\/p>\n

The 6\u20193, 194-pound netminder has represented Canada previously in his career attending the 2025 U17 World Challenge where he helped Canada Red capture the Gold Medal in Truro, Nova Scotia. Oaten appeared in four games for the gold medallists posting a 2.95 GAA and a .905 SV% and was named one of the tournament all-stars. He also was named to the preliminary roster for Canada prior to the 2026 IIHF World Under-18 Championships in May.<\/p>\n

Oaten is one of three goaltenders named to the Summer Under-18 Team Training Camp. He is also one of 11 WHL players named of the 27 players that will attend the camp. The 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup will take place at Rogers Place from August 3rd<\/sup> until 9th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced that Barclay Parneta has been named the club\u2019s General Manager of Hockey Operations, signing a multi-year contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to officially announce Barclay Parneta as General Manager of the Lethbridge Hurricanes,\u201d said Hurricanes President of the Board of Directors, Doug Paisley. \u201cBarclay\u2019s familiarity with the organization and the club\u2019s hockey operations provided valuable continuity when he assumed the Interim General Manager duties in January. Over the past six months, he has demonstrated his ability to work effectively with player agents and fellow league general managers to sign prospects and complete trades that has strengthened the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parneta, 55, was originally hired by the Hurricanes as a Senior Advisor in September of 2025 before he assumed Interim General Manager duties in January of 2026. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, product has been instrumental in moving the Hurricanes organization forward with the signings of key players like Dayne Beuker, Logan Stuart, Jake Stuart and others in preparation for the 2026-2027 regular season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the Board of Directors for the opportunity to serve as General Manager of the Lethbridge Hurricanes,\u201d said Parneta. \u201cI appreciate the confidence they have shown in me, and I look forward to continuing the work we have started together since I was named Interim General Manager in January.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to his time with the \u2018Canes, Parneta served as the General Manager of the Vancouver Giants for seven seasons from 2018 until 2025. In his time with the Giants, Parneta helped lead Vancouver to the WHL\u2019s post-season in all five years in which the playoffs were held, highlighted by a Western Conference Championship in 2019 before falling in Game 7 overtime in the WHL Championship Series to the Prince Albert Raiders. In his seven campaigns with Vancouver, Parneta amassed a regular season record of 210-178-29-7 while capturing the 2018-2019 BC Division title.<\/p>\n

Before joining the Giants as General Manager, Parneta spent parts of 18 seasons with the Tri-City Americans in two stints holding roles of Development Coach, Scout, Head Scout and Assistant General Manager. He also served as an Amateur Scout for the St. Louis Blues for five years from 2003 to 2008 along with three years with the Phoenix Coyotes from 2007 to 2010 before returning to the Americans as a Development Coach and Head Scout.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank my family, and especially my wife, for her unwavering support throughout my career,\u201d added Parneta. \u201cI would also like to thank Pete Anholt for bringing me into the Hurricanes organization. Finally, I want to thank our fans and the Lethbridge community. The support this team receives is something our players and staff never take for granted. Internationally, Parneta has represented Canada at various levels including leading Team Canada White as the General Manager to a Gold Medal at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He served also served as the Management Lead for Team Canada Red at the 2023 U17 tournament while also serving on the Hockey Canada Advisory Committee between 2018 and 2025 for the U17, U18 and U20 levels.<\/p>\n

As a player, Parneta appeared in three WHL games with the Seattle Thunderbirds during the 1986-1987 season going pointless. He spent three season from 1987 to 1990 in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Abbotsford Falcons, Chilliwack Eagles and Ladner Penguins amassing 76 points (37g-39a) along with 313 penalty minutes in 123 regular season games.<\/p>\n

Novak, 18, was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the first-round (52nd<\/sup> overall) in the 2025 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The Chomotuv, Czechia, product spent the 2025-2026 season with HC Sparta U20 team amassing 35 points (11g-24a) along with 60 penalty minutes in 28 regular season games. He added four assists in 11 games with HC Stadion Litomerice in the Czechia2 league before collecting six points (4g-2a) and four penalty minutes in 10 post-season games. Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club are pleased to announce that Assistant Coach Ryan Aasman has been named an Assistant Coach by Hockey Canada for the 2027 IIHF Under-17 World Challenge.<\/p>\n

Aasman, 34, will represent Canada internationally in a coaching capacity for the third time. He previously served as a Video Coach for the World U18 Championship in May in Slovakia. It will be the second time he will represent Hockey Canada at the World Under-17 Challenge after serving as a Video Coach at the 2022 tournament where he helped Canada Red capture a Silver Medal. He also worked as a camp coach at the 2025 U17 development camp in Calgary.<\/p>\n

The Medicine Hat, AB, was originally hired by the Hurricanes as a Video Coach prior to the 2021-2022 season. Aasman has spent the last five seasons with the \u2018Canes with the last four as an Assistant Coach. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, he served as the head coach of the Calgary Northstars U18 AAA team after one year with the Alberta Junior Hockey League\u2019s Grande Prairie Stom where he served as Interim Head Coach.<\/p>\n

During his playing career, Aasman appeared in 166 regular season games in the Western Hockey League amassing 12 points (1g-11a) along with 68 penalty minutes with the Prince Albert Raiders, Seattle Thunderbirds, Swift Current Broncos, Medicine Hat Tigers and Edmonton Oil Kings. He also spent parts of two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League before four seasons with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Men\u2019s Hockey Program.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced the signing of 2007-born forward Jake Stuart Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreements.<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple of years ago I didn\u2019t think it would have been possible to play in the WHL, but with the [NCAA] rule changes, I thought the opportunity was really good for me and I\u2019m super excited for next year,\u201d said Stuart. \u201cLast year, honestly, I didn\u2019t have the year I wanted to have and I think I need one more year of Junior. I\u2019m super excited for training camp, and I just can\u2019t wait to get started and I\u2019m excited to join the Hurricanes; it\u2019s going to be a very exciting season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stuart, 19, was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Brandon Wheat Kings in May in a three-team trade. He was \u00a0originally selected second overall by the Wheat Kings in the 2022 WHL US Priority Draft. The Manhatten Beach, California, product has split the 2025-2026 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League where he collected 16 points (6g-10a) along with 31 penalty minutes in 51 regular season games. He has also tallied one assist in 10 post-season games helping the Stampede capture the USHL Clark Cup Championship. Jake has a commitment to the University of Denver.<\/p>\n

He’s a talented player with a strong two-way game, excellent character, and significant upside,\u201d said Hurricanes Interim General Manager Barclay Parneta. \u201cHe also brings valuable experience from a championship program in Sioux Falls, where he learned what it takes to compete and win a championship. The 5\u20199, 165-pound forward previously spent two seasons with the US National Team Development Program where he appeared in a combined 132 regular season games collecting 42 points (24g-18a) along with 46 penalty minutes with the NTDP U17 and U18 programs. Last year, Stuart amassed 31 points (17g-14a) along with 36 penalty minutes in 67 regular season games at the U18 level while also recording four penalty minutes with the USNTDP team in the inaugural CHL-USA Prospects Challenge where he appeared in two games. Before his time with the USNTDP, he spent three seasons in the Los Angeles Jr. Kings 15U and 14U programs. In his draft year, Stuart collected an impressive 90 points (50g-40a) along with 36 penalty minutes in 71 regular season games with the Jr. Kings 14U team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to be able to go play with my brother [Logan] and [Dayne] Beuker, it\u2019s going to be pretty cool, the last time that we played a full season together, I was 12. Joining my brother, not a lot of people get to do, and I think this is the best option for me and it was a no brainer [to sign],\u201d added Stuart. \u201cMy parents, especially my mom, are really excited to be able to come see us in the same spot, and it\u2019s really cool to be able to play in the same league as my Dad did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jake is the older brother of Hurricanes forward and Washington Capitals draft pick Logan Stuart, who signed with the club in June. He is also the son of former WHL and NHL defenceman Brad Stuart, who also spent parts of four seasons in the WHL with the Regina Pats and Calgary Hitmen before spending 18 seasons in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think next year, I want to be a really consistent player who can be reliable. I\u2019m a really good two-way forward, I take pride on the defensive side of the ice, but I can also contribute offensively. Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced that 2008-born forward Logan Stuart has been named to the United States Roster for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase.<\/p>\n

Stuart, 18, was named by USA Hockey as one of 47 players to participate in the event while being named as one of 26 forwards for the showcase. The World Junior Summer Showcase will take place from July 26th<\/sup> until August 1st<\/sup> in Windsor, Ontario. The week-long event will include exhibition games between Canada, the United States, Finland and Sweden. The Manhatten Beach, California, product was selected in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals in the seventh-round (208th<\/sup> overall) and is currently attending the Capitals Development Camp.<\/p>\n

The 5\u201910, 175-pound forward signed with the Hurricanes in June after spending the last two seasons with the US National Team Development Program. Stuart recorded a combined 45 points (13g-32a) along with 16 penalty minutes in a combined 80 regular season games during the 2025-2026 season. Stuart amassed 15 points (3g-12a) along with a plus-11 rating with the USNTDP U18 team in United States Hockey League competition.<\/p>\n

Stuart has previously represented the United States at the 2025 CHL-USA Prospects Challenge where he appeared in three games recording one assist in both Calgary and Lethbridge helping Team USA to their first Prospects Challenge Championship. Stuart skated in 169 regular season games at both the U17 and U18 levels over the last two years, recording 90 points (29g-61a) along with 48 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second-round (36th<\/sup> overall) in the 2023 WHL US Priority Draft.<\/p>\n

The Duncan, British Columbia, product skated in 63 regular season games with the Hurricanes amassing 14 points (9g-5a) along with 106 penalty minutes during the 2025-2026 season. He finished as the team-leader in penalty minutes while finishing seventh in the WHL in PIMS. In two seasons with Lethbridge, Lesiuk has appeared in 96 regular season games (10g-9a) along with 128 penalty minutes. The 6\u20194, 216-pound forward was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second-round (36th<\/sup> overall) in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.<\/p>\n

Beuker, 18, will attend the New York Rangers development camp. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan, product signed with the Hurricanes in June after spending the last two seasons with the US National Team Development Program. In 2025-2026, he recorded 61 points (20g-41a) along with 18 penalty minutes in a combined 87 regular season games finishing seventh in team scoring. Beuker collected 18 points (6g-12a) along with two penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating in 25 games with USNTDP in United States Hockey League competition. The 5\u201910, 170-pound forward appeared suited up for the USNTDP at the 2025 CHL-USA Prospects Challenge which was held in Calgary and Lethbridge in November. Beuker recorded one goal and four penalty minutes in the three contests. He also represented the United States at the World Under-18 Championships in April where he collected five points (2g-3a) along with a plus-5 rating in five contests finishing fourth in American scoring. He was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the first-round (14th<\/sup> overall) in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club, in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, have announced their 2026-2027 regular season schedule.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes will open their 68-game schedule on Friday, September 18th<\/sup> when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00pm at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena in the Dairy Queen Home Opener. The schedule will consist of 34 home games and 34 road games during the season. Of the 34 home dates, the Hurricanes will play a total of 16 games on Friday\u2019s along with eight Saturday contests and on Sunday contest. Lethbridge will also play two Tuesday and seven Wednesday games during the regular season campaign.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge will play a total of 56-games during Eastern Conference opponents, including 32 games against Central Division opponents and 24 games against the East Division. The \u2018Canes will play 12 games against the Western Conference, including six games against the BC Division and six against the US Division. The Hurricanes will face each Central Division team \u2013 including the Calgary Hitmen, Edmonton Oil Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers and Red Deer Rebels \u2013 a total of eight times each including four at home and four on the road while facing all East Division opponents \u2013 Brandon Wheat Kings, Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raiders, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades and Swift Current Broncos \u2013 each four times, including two at home and two on the road.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Canes will play 33 games prior to the Christmas break and 35 games following the break. Lethbridge\u2019s longest homestand will be three-games on four separate occasions, including the first from September 25th<\/sup> until October 3rd<\/sup> and the last being from February 5th<\/sup> until February 12th<\/sup>. The Hurricanes longest road trip of the season will be from October 24th<\/sup> until November 4th<\/sup> when they embark on a season-long four-game road trip.<\/p>\n

Lethbridge, AB – <\/strong>The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced the selections of 2009-born defenceman Dominick Radim Byrtus, 2008-born forward Oliver Sichtar and 2009-born forward Oliver Vanha in the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.<\/p>\n

Byrtus, 17, was selected in the first-round (3rd<\/sup> overall) by the Hurricanes. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, product is a dual citizen of both United States and Czechia. He spent the 2025-2026 season with the HC Ocelari Trinec U20 team where he appeared in 23 regular season games amassing 12 points (4g-8a) along with 16 penalty minutes. He added seven assists along with six penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating in 10 post-season games. Byrtus also appeared in 22 regular season games with the HC Frydek-Mistek in the Czechia2 league collecting two points (1g-1a).<\/p>\n

The 5\u201910, 190-pound defenceman represented Czechia at the U17 and U18 levels last year. Byrtus skated in seven games recording three assists at the World Under-18 Championship. He also skated in four games being held pointless with the Czechia U17 team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. During the 2025-2026 season, the left-shot rearguard appeared in 23 games with the Czechia U18 club in international play amassing nine points (4g-5a) along with six penalty minutes while also skating in four international contents with the Czechia U17 team. He helped Czechia earn a Bronze medal at the World U18 Championships.<\/p>\n

Sichtar, 18, was picked in the second-round (64th<\/sup> overall) by the \u2018Canes. The Brno, Czechia, product spent the 2025-2026 season with the HC Kometa Brno U20 team where he appeared in 49 regular season games collecting 23 points (8g-15a) along with 20 penalty minutes. He finished sixth in team scoring for the Brno U20 team. Sichtar added four points (1g-3a) along with a plus-3 rating in five post-season games.<\/p>\n

The 6\u20193, 190-pound right-winger was teammates with Byrtus on the Czechia World Under-18 Championship capturing a Bronze medal. Sichtar totalled one goal in seven games during the tournament. He also appeared in 16 games with the Czechia U18 International team amassing five goals. In 2024-2025, Sichtar posted 24 points (12g-12a) along with four penalty minutes in 42 regular season games with the HC Kometa Brno U17 club.<\/p>\n

Vanha, 17, was selected in the third-round (125th<\/sup> overall) by Lethbridge. The Praha, Czechia, product spent the 2025-2026 season with the HC Dynamo Pardubice U17 team racking up 57 points (25g-32a) along with 81 penalty minutes and a plus-39 rating in 32 regular season games. He finished fourth in team scoring while also finishing fourth in goals last year. Vanha also ranked 11th<\/sup> in league scoring while ending the campaign 15th<\/sup> in goals.<\/p>\n

The 6\u20194. 203-pound forward added 14 points (6g-8a) along with 20 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating in 11 post-season games with HC Dynamo Pardubice U17 team finishing tied for fourth in league playoff scoring. Vanha also skated in 14 regular season games with the HC Dynamo Pardubice U20 club during the 2025-2026 season collecting two assists and two penalty minutes.<\/p>\n
