rHITMEN TIE WHL RECORD WITH 12th STRAIGHT PLAYOFF WIN
rThe Calgary Hitmen will play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 2009 WHL Championship series after completing a sweep of the Brandon Wheat Kings with a 6-4 victory in Game 4 of the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series on Wednesday, April 22nd.

rIt’s the 12th consecutive victory for the Hitmen in the 2009 WHL Playoffs, tying a WHL record for most consecutive playoff wins. The Hitmen swept the Edmonton Oil Kings in the first round then swept the defending WHL Eastern Conference champion Lethbridge Hurricanes in the second round.

rKeith Seabrook, Alex Plante, Bostjan Golicic and Tomas Karpov each tallied a goal and an assist in the Game 4 triumph for the Hitmen, who outshot the Wheat Kings 35-16 and scored the game’s first five goals, while Paul Postma and Brett Sonne also scored. Martin Jones made 12 saves to run his playoff record to 12-0.

rJay Fehr and Nathan Green each notched a goal and an assist while Andrew Clark and Jordan Hale also scored for the Wheat Kings, who see their 2008-09 campaign come to an end. Andrew Hayes and James Priestner combined for 29 saves in the loss.

rThe Hitmen will face either the Kelowna Rockets or the Vancouver Giants in the 2009 WHL Championship series.

rThe Giants edged the Rockets 3-2 in Kelowna in Game 3 on Tuesday night, thanks to Lance Bouma’s go-ahead goal late in the third period, and now hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Giants improved to 4-2 on the road in the 2009 post-season with Tuesday’s Game 3 win in Kelowna. Jonathon Blum leads all WHL defensemen in playoff scoring with six goals and 17 points in 14 games.

rThe Rockets find themselves down 1-2 in the series after Tuesday’s Game 3 defeat, and also lost home-ice advantage in the process. The Rockets have outshot the Giants in two of the first three games of the series. Tyler Myers ranks third among WHL defensemen in post-season scoring with four goals and 14 points in 13 games.
