Dylan Cozens returning to Lethbridge Hurricanes
Dylan Cozens is coming back to the Western Hockey League.
The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday morning that they were returning Cozens to the Lethbridge Hurricanes as they made continued moves to their training camp roster ahead of the start of the 2019-20 NHL Regular Season. The Sabres chose Cozens with the seventh-overall selection at the 2019 NHL Draft, making him the third WHL player selected at June’s event.
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound product of Whitehorse, Yukon, Cozens posted 84 points (34G-50A) in 68 games last season with the Hurricanes, including eight power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and four game-winning goals. In the 2019 WHL Playoffs, he added eight points (4G-4A) in seven games.
The recipient of the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL Rookie of the Year at the 2018 WHL Awards, Cozens was originally selected in the first round, 19th overall, by the Hurricanes at the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
In 128 WHL regular season games, Cozens has recorded 138 points (57G-81A), including 17 power-play goals, two short-handed goals, and eight game-winning goals. On November 13, 2016, Cozens scored in his WHL regular season debut against the Saskatoon Blades.
The 18-year-old Cozens has also appeared in 35 WHL playoff games as well, posting 29 points (14G-15A), including three power-play goals and one short-handed goal.
Internationally, Cozens won gold at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with Canada. He’s also participated in the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, posting seven points (1G-6A) in six games. At the 2019 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, Cozens served as an alternate captain on Canada’s team, posting nine points (4G-5A) in seven games.
