rSee the Hurricanes of tomorrow for the first time as they battle it out in the annual Blue and White intra-squad game at Adams Ice Centre. Volunteers from the Lethbridge United Way will be on hand to take donations for this very worthwhile cause.
r
rOctober 9/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Edmonton
rDon’t miss out as the Lethbridge Hurricanes make their return to the ENMAX Centre for the 2009 Lethbridge Hurricanes/Dairy Queen Home opener. Due to building renovations the Hurricanes will begin the 09-10 season on the road for the first three weeks of the campaign before returning to Lethbridge for a much anticipated opening weekend. Last season, the Edmonton Oil Kings qualified for the WHL playoffs for the first time in their modern franchise history. Head Coach Steve Pleau leads a young breakout group of players which include the likes of former 1st round CHL Import Draft pick and 2009 NHL Draft pick Tomas Vincour and former 1st round WHL Bantam Draft pick and recent selection for the Canadian U-18 Summer National team – Mark Pysyk.
r
rOctober 10/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Saskatoon
rThe Canes will take on their most recent Eastern Conference rivals, the Saskatoon Blades at the ENMAX Centre for the first time since eliminating the Blades from the 2009 WHL Playoffs in game seven of their Eastern Conference quarter final series. It was the club’s first game seven since the 1990-91 team won an East division championship over the Medicine Hat Tigers in seven games before losing in the WHL Finals. Saskatoon should return another strong side this season with several skilled 90 and 91 born players returning.
r
rNovember 4/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Everett
rKyle Beach takes on his old teammates as the Everett Silver Tips make their first trip to the ENMAX Centre since the 2007-2008 season. In their only meeting last season, the Canes pulled out a 5-4 win in Everett. On that night, Beach notched a three point night (1G, 2A) including the game winner in his first game in Comcast arena with an opposing team’s jersey. The Canes will host all five U.S. Division teams this season. (Oct.21/09 vs. Portland; Oct.30/09 vs. Seattle; Nov.4/09 vs. Everett; Nov.13/09 vs. Tri-City; Jan.15/10 vs. Spokane) In 08-09, Lethbridge notched a 2-3-0-0 record on the road against the U.S. Division, while in 07-08 the Canes went undefeated with a 5-0 record hosting the U.S. Division.
r
rNovember 10/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Calgary
rThe Calgary Hitmen return to the ENMAX Centre for the first time since their four game sweep of the Canes in last year’s WHL Eastern Conference Semi Final series. These two teams have met in the playoffs for the last two seasons, with the winner of that series going on to the an Eastern Conference banner and a berth in the WHL Championship both years.
r
rDecember 4/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Red Deer
rCanes fans may get there first look at a future superstar as the rebuilding Red Deer Rebels and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins come to town. The highly touted WHL rookie was selected first overall in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft and tallied six points (2G, 4A) in his five WHL games as a fifteen year old last season. The Hurricanes dominated the Rebels last season, posting a 5-1-0-0 record against the Rebs and outscoring them 24-6; shutting them out four times.
r
rDecember 5/09 @ 7:00 PM – vs. Medicine Hat
rIt should be a December to remember as the Canes host their old southern Alberta rivals – the Medicine Hat Tigers three times this month. (Dec.5/09; Dec.13/09; Dec.30/09) This rivalry reached new levels last season and always promises to be a raucous and rowdy affair.
