Hurricanes finish preseason in style
Calgary, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes took back to back wins over the defending WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen this weekend – capped with a 5-1 victory on Saturday night from the EDGE School in Springbank. The Canes lopsided victory was led by the veterans – Austin Fyten (2G), Brennan Yadlowski (2A) and Cam Braes (2A). Braes had just arrived back from the prospects tourney in Pentiction late Friday. Rookie Brady Ramsay felt right at home as the former EDGE team member tallied the game winning second goal of the night for the Canes. Graham Hood and Mitch Maxwell also tallied for the boys from the bridge as Lethbridge controlled the play most of the night including leading the Hitmen 4-0 after the second period of play and outshooting them 30-12.
Rookie goaltender Tanner Kovacs put in another solid performance between the pipes allowing only the one goal on 27 Calgary shots. The Canes were 1 for 7 on the power play while holding th Hitmen to 0 for 9 with the man advantage.
The Canes finish the 2010 preseason with a solid record of 4-1-0-1 but that will all be erased come Friday when the Canes step into the house of these same Hitmen for the WHL Season Opener. The atmophere should be electric as the Canes will look to play the part of spoiler to the Hitmen’s party as they will be raising their 2010 WHL Championship banner to the rafters of the Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 PM in Calgary, be sure to tune into the official radio voice of the Lethbridge Hurricanes 94.1FM The Lounge as Pat Siedlecki calls all your Hurricanes action.
