Canes Training Camp Wraps Up
Lethbridge, AB – Team White was able to pull out a 5-2 victory Sunday morning in the Lethbridge Hurricanes Annual Blue and White Intrasquad Game. Second year Lethbridge forward Austin Fyten tallied the game winner while Ryon Moser and Jason Trott also lit the lamp for Team White. Local products Cody Fehr and Brandyn Hulit rounded out the Team White scoring. Michael Sofillas and Derek Hutton both scored for Team Blue in a losing cause.

rThe game marked the end of Hurricanes Training Camp 2008 and the beginning of several new Hurricanes careers. Lethbridge Director of Scouting and Player Personnel Brad Robson was proud to announce the signing of defensemen Derek Ryckman (Red Deer, AB) and Cody Castro (Peoria, AZ) as well as forwards Ryon Moser and Philip Tot. All four will join the Hurricanes preseason roster as they prepare for the Ice Breaker preseason tournament in Saskatoon next weekend. Tot, the Canes 2008 WHL Bantam Draft 1st round selection will be the only 93-born player to join the team for the preseason. (Tot’s camp was cut short in order to accommodate his Midget AAA tryout in Calgary this weekend)
r
r2007 1st round WHL Bantam Draft picks Alex Theriau and Mark Reners head up a strong group of 92-born skaters who will remain with the team; including U.S. born Brandon Brossoit and the aforementioned Moser, Castro, Ryckman. The goaltending dual continues as 92-born Brandon Anderson and Michael Tadjdeh remain the final two goaltenders vying for the backup position behind returning Finnish star Juha Metsola.

r“I am happy with the level of competition in this year’s camp, as always we have younger players coming in who are pushing our older guys and we have some real tough decisions especially on our blue line.” said Canes GM Roy Stasiuk “We have an outstanding group of young players and now the balancing act is to try and get some of them into our lineup while retaining the rights of the others and keeping their interest in the Lethbridge Hurricanes.”
r
rThere will be little rest for these new Hurricanes recruits as practice is scheduled for tomorrow 1:30 PM at the ENMAX Centre. The Ice Breaker Preseason Tournament in Saskatoon kicks off Friday as the Canes will take on the host Saskatoon Blades.
