Canes lose in shootout in Brando
Lethbridge takes 5 of possible 6 points on pre-christmas road trip
rBrandon, MB – The Canes were unable to take advantage of a 5 on 3 powerplay in overtime and ended up losing 4-3 in a shootout with the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night. Carter Ashton (1G,1A) and Dwight King (2A) each had two point nights while Colton Sceviour and Garrett Taylor notched the other Hurricanes markers. Taylor scored off of a nifty play by Austin Fyten to give the Canes a 3-2 lead which they held until 17:46 of the third period. For Ashton the goal added to his already career breakout season as it marked his 20th, while Sceviour continues to lead the team going into the Christmas break with 45 points (18G, 27A) in 33 games. Juha Metsola had another strong showing with an amazing 38 saves in he loss. Metsola’s record drops to 15-13-0-2 as he departs immediately to join Team Finland at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa, ON.

rThe Canes now depart for a well deserved holiday for the WHL Christmas Break. The Canes carry a 20-14-0-2 record into the second half of the season, good enough for third in the tough WHL Central Division. Lethbridge and the rest of the league will be back in action on Saturday, December 27th as the Canes return home to take on the Kootenay Ice.
