Hurricanes to play home, home and home series against Broncos starting this weekend
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes and Swift Current Broncos have yet to meet this season but will be very familiar with each other following a three game, six day stint beginning with their matchup Friday in Swift Current. The Canes will then host the Broncos the following night at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge before returning to “Speedy Creek” on Wednesday of next week for the final of this odd three game series. These three games will make up three of the four meetings between these clubs this season, with the four and final matchup coming on January 1st in Lethbridge. In 09-10, the Canes posted a 2-2-0-0 record against the Broncos with their last trip to Speedy Creek resulting in a 2-1 win on January 13, 2010.
These teams should match up well against each other as the Hurricanes 6th ranked penalty kill in the WHL will have to contend with the Broncos 6th ranked power play. Both teams are coming off of a win and are tied in the Eastern Conference standings with 26 points a piece. Mitch Maxwell, coming off of a three point night in Wednesday’s shootout win over the highly touted Red Deer Rebels, leads the Hurricanes with 18 points (7G,11A). Rookie Alex Kuvaev leads all Canes rookies with 17 points and his 10 goals tie him for second in the WHL rookie goal scoring race. But the man with the hot hand is injury returnee Austin Fyten, Fyten returned from injury last week and has three points (2G,1A) in as many games for a total of 11 points (8G,3A) in just eight games this season.
