Wormald Paces ‘Canes to Win; End Losing Skid
Regina, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes ended a six-game losing streak on Saturday with a 6-1 victory at the Brandt Centre over the Regina Pats.
The Hurricanes had a strong first period as they outshot the Pats 13-11 in the opening frame. Lethbridge peppered Regina netminder Matthew Kieper early in the game, including on a power play, but it stayed scoreless early. The Pats opened the scoring at the 14:19 mark as Tanner Howe scored his fifth of the season finishing off a two-on-one to make it 1-0. The ‘Canes answered back with a goal in the final minute as Trevor Thurston had a point shot deflect off a Regina player and in with 31 seconds left to tie the game 1-1; for Thurston it was his first goal of the season as Alex Thacker and Logan Wormald earned the assists on the goal – Wormald’s first WHL point.
In the second period, the ‘Canes offense exploded for three goals as Jett Jones banged home a loose puck for his fourth of the season just 4:59 into the period to give Lethbridge their first lead; Joe Arntsen and Wormald earned the helpers. After a pair of early chances in the second, Wormald broke through and was able to score his first WHL goal at the 12:19 mark to give the ‘Canes a 3-1 lead; newcomer Kade Nolan earned an assist on the goal in his Hurricanes debut. Before the period was out, Logan Barlage ended a 13-game goal drought with his third of the season on a power play to give the ‘Canes a 4-1 lead after forty minutes of play.
The Hurricanes continued to pepper the Pats in the third period as Ty Nash buried his third of the year on a steal in the offensive zone before ripping one by the glove of Kieper to make it 5-1 on an unassisted goal. Lethbridge rounded out the scoring late in the game as Justin Hall finished a three-way passing play for his fourth of the season; Wormald picked up his third assist, fourth point of the game on the goal while Arntsen collected his third point of the game as the ‘Canes earned a 6-1 victory.
Lethbridge outshot Regina 33-28 in the contest. The ‘Canes went 2/4 with the power play while going 1/1 on the penalty kill.

The victory for the Hurricanes ended a six-game losing streak and a six-game road losing streak. The win lifted the ‘Canes overall record to 6-9-0-0 on the season and 2-6-0-0 away from home. Lethbridge has now won five straight games against Regina and are 8-0-0-1 in their last nine head-to-head meetings.
The Hurricanes will end their five-game road trip on Sunday when they visit the Moose Jaw Warriors at 400pm MT.
