Sharpe, Cleaver to Represent Canada at World Under-17 Hockey Challenge
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday that 2007-born defenceman Will Sharpe and 2007-born goaltender Koen Cleaver will represent Canada White at the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Sharpe, 16, was a first-round draft pick (11th overall) of the Hurricanes in the 2022 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. The Delta, BC, product has skated in 12 games this season with the ‘Canes collecting two assists with 12 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. Sharpe recorded 23 points (7g-16a) with 44 penalty minutes in 23 regular season games last year with the Yale Hockey Academy U18 Prep team while adding four points in four playoff games.
Cleaver, 16, was selected in the third-round (48th overall) in the 2022 WHL Draft. The Port Alberni, BC, product has appeared in two games this season with the Pacific Coast Academy U18 Prep team posting a 1-1-0 record with a 4.50 goals against average and a .859 save percentage. Cleaver, who was the first goaltender selected in the 2022 draft, posted a 1-0-0-0 record in three pre-season appearances with the Hurricanes posting a 3.32 GAA and a .891 SV%.
The duo will both represent Canada White at the tournament. Hurricanes Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt will serve as an Assistant Coach for Canada Red. The 2023 World Under-23 Hockey Challenge will take place in Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island from November 2nd until November 11th.
The Hurricanes will return to the ENMAX Centre on Wednesday when they welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:00pm before hosting the Calgary Hitmen on Friday at 7:00pm in the B93 Halloween Howler.
