Morrison Signs with LA Kings
Lethbridge, AB – The Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League announced today that they have signed Hurricanes overage forward Brad Morrison to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Morrison, 21, was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2015 but went unsigned. He attended the Calgary Flames rookie development last year prior to the Western Hockey League season.
Morrison was acquired by the Hurricanes prior to the WHL Trade Deadline from the Vancouver Giants. In 32 regular season games, the product of Prince George, BC recorded 40 points (16g-24a) along with 29 penalty minutes. In 74 games this season split with the Hurricanes and Giants, the overage forward registered a career-high 75 points (27g-48a) and 62 penalty minutes.
“I’m happy to sign with a team like the LA Kings, not many people get an opportunity to do that,” said Morrison. “I’m just thankful for all the players, the staff and everyone involved with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, I couldn’t of done it without them.”
The former seventh overall pick from the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft had a terrific post-season with the Hurricanes registering 37 points (16g-21a) along with six penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. Morrison set a new franchise mark for most goals (16) in a single post-season and finished tied for the most points (37) in a single playoff with Wes Walz.
