Hurricanes Trade Stringer to Pats for 10th Overall Pick
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday they have acquired the 10th overall selection in the 2021 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft from the Regina Pats in exchange for 2003-born forward Zack Stringer.
Stringer, 18, was originally selected by the Hurricanes with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft. The Lethbridge, Alberta product appeared in 79 career regular season games with the Hurricanes totaling 52 points (17g-35a) along with 34 penalty minutes. He added three points (1g-2a) in six WHL post-season games in 2019.
During the shortened 2020-2021 season, Stringer collected 14 points (5g-9a) along with 10 penalty minutes in 23 games. He had a career-high 11 goals and 34 points in 48 games during the 2019-2020 season.
“We’d like to thank Zack for his contributions to the Hurricanes organization,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “He has been a part of our organization since he was 15 and contributed to our club on a night in, night out basis. We wish him all the best in Regina.”
The Hurricanes will now hold two first round selections (10th overall & 17th overall) in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. The ‘Canes will join the Brandon Wheat Kings, Swift Current Broncos and Edmonton Oil Kings with at least two picks in the first round of the coming draft.
The 2021 WHL Draft will take place on December 9th, 2021.
The Hurricanes open their 2021 ENMAX Training Camp on September 9th at the ENMAX Centre while the ENMAX Pre-Season is slated to begin Friday, September 17th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers. The ‘Canes will being the 2021-2022 regular season on Friday, October 1st against the Calgary Hitmen.
