Hurricanes Sign Owen Nelson
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday they have signed 2007-born forward Owen Nelson to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Nelson, 16, was listed by the Hurricanes in 2023. He was originally drafted by the Regina Pats in the eighth-round (163rd overall) in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. The Prince Albert, SK, product has appeared in 39 games this season with the Prince Albert Mintos U18 AAA team where he has racked up 46 points (26g-20a) along with four penalty minutes. Nelson leads the Mintos in goals and points while sitting 12th in league scoring in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League. He has also appeared in three games this season with the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
The 6’1, 172-pound forward totaled 13 points (5g-8a) along with 12 penalty minutes with the Mintos during the 2022-2023 regular season before collecting two points (1g-1a) in three post-season games. In his career, Nelson has skated in 81 games with the Mintos amassing 59 points (31g-28a) along with 16 penalty minutes. He racked up 68 points (36g-32a) along with 18 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Prince Albert Pirates U15 AA team during his draft year.
The Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre on Friday, February 16th when they welcome the Saskatoon Blades at 7:00pm before hosting the Prince Albert Raiders at 6:00pm on Saturday, February 17th.
