Hurricanes Shutout by Silvertips to Open Trip
Everett, WA – The Lethbridge Hurricanes opened a three-game US Division road swing on Wednesday with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Everett Silvertips at the Angel of the Winds Arena.
The game was the first of five-straight away from home for the Hurricanes and the middle of a stretch of nine games in nine different cities. Lethbridge had a good start to the game as Logan Wormald – who entered on a career-high nine game point streak – was set up point blank by Miguel Marques, but Alex Garrett for the Silvertips made a terrific save to keep it scoreless. Both teams traded chances through the first period as the ‘Canes outshot the ‘Tips 14-11 in the period. Lethbridge had a late first period flurry with a pair of great looks for the captain Noah Chadwick who was stopped twice as the game was scoreless after twenty minutes of play.
Lethbridge had a great start to the second period as they kept Everett pinned in their zone for the first five-minutes but couldn’t solve Garrett who stymied the ‘Canes early to keep the game scoreless. Everett came close to opening the scoring when Julien Maze found himself on a breakaway, but Smith stood tall to make the save. The ‘Canes earned the first power play of the game at the midway point of the period; however, it was the Silvertips that struck with a shorthanded breakaway goal by Jesse Heslop to make it 1-0 at the 9:41 mark. Everett struck again just over three-minutes later when Caine Wilke ripped home his sixth goal of the season to make it 2-0. The Silvertips kept pouring on the pressure as they added to their lead with a power play goal by Eric Jamieson after the ‘Canes were penalized for too many men to make it 3-0 after forty minutes of play. The Hurricanes were outshot 10-8 in the period.
The Hurricanes were penalized on the first shift of the third period as Brayden Edwards was assessed a goaltender interference penalty just 25-seconds into the frame. On the power play, the Silvertips needed just four-seconds to capitalize as Julius Miettinen swatted home his sixth goal of the year to make it a 4-0 game; Dominik Rymon and Carter Bear earned the assists on the goal. Lethbridge searched for a spark and a goal, but Garrett was rock-solid in the Everett crease as they hung on to the 4-0 final.
Shots were even 11-11 in the third period while the Hurricanes outshot the Silvertips 33-32 in the game. Lethbridge went 0/2 on the power play while Everett was 2/3 with the extra man.

The loss for the Hurricanes was their second-straight defeat as their three-game road winning streak came to an end. Lethbridge’s road record fell to 4-5-0-0 on the season while their overall record fell to 12-7-1-0 on the year. The ‘Canes are now 1-2-1-0 against Western Conference opponents.
The Hurricanes will continue their three-game US Division road trip on Friday when they visit the Portland Winterhawks at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 8:00pm MT.
