Hurricanes Shutout 6-0 by Oil Kings
Edmonton, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes suffered their second loss of the three-and-three weekend on Sunday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 6-0 loss at Rogers Place.
The Hurricanes were looking to bounce back after Saturday night’s 8-1 loss to the Red Deer Rebels. While, the Oil Kings were looking to continue their winning momentum after Saturday night’s shutout victory against the Swift Current Broncos.
The Oil Kings were quick to capitalize first in the opening frame as Dylan Guenther beat Jared Picklyk two minutes into the period. The Oil Kings continued to dominate the first period as Jalen Luypen extended the Edmonton lead to two heading into the second period. The Oil Kings held the edge in shots at 11-6.
In the middle frame, the Hurricanes started to settle into the game as they had some excellent chances to cut the Edmonton lead. But five minutes into the second, Shea Van Olm finds the back of the net bringing Edmonton’s lead up to three goals. After some excellent chances by the ‘Canes, Gunther got his second of the night past Picklyk to send the ‘Canes down by four goals into the final 20 minutes of play. Both the Oil Kings and Hurricanes had even shots on goal in the second at eight each.
The final 20 saw the Hurricanes try to cut into the Oil Kings lead as they got four consecutive power plays but could not find a way to beat Sebastian Cossa. The Oil Kings got a quick pair of power plays in the middle of the third bringing the score to 6-0 sealing the win for Edmonton. The ‘Canes outshot the Oil Kings in the third 10-7.
The Oil Kings held the edge in shots for the game 26-24. The Hurricanes went 0/8 with the extra man while Edmonton went 2/5 on the power play.

The loss for the ‘Canes is their fourth loss to the Oil Kings this season, as their record now falls to 15-18-2-1 on the season; while their record against Edmonton changes to 1-4-0-1.
The Hurricanes will now head home to prepare for Wednesday night’s match up against the Swift Current Broncos at the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm.
