Hurricanes Doubled 4-2 in Swift Current
Swift Current, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes began a busy second-half on Monday with a 4-2 loss in Swift Current against the Broncos at Innovation Credit Union i-Plex.
The Hurricanes and Broncos had an energetic start to the first period as there appeared to be no rust in the legs after the eight-day holiday break. Swift Current had a pair of power play opportunities in the early going but could not solve Bryan Thomson to open the scoring. Lethbridge had a few good looks of a power play chance of their own but Isaac Poulter turned aside all 11-shots the ‘Canes had in the first period. The Broncos opened the scoring with 2:06 left in the period when Josh Filmon ripped home his 13th of the season beating a screened Thomson to make it 1-0 Swift Current after twenty minutes of play. Lethbridge outshot Swift Current 11-7 in the opening frame.
The teams traded a pair of goals each in the second period as the ‘Canes tied the game just 36-seconds in when Logan Barlage tipped home his sixth of the season – and ninth career goal against his former team – to make it a 1-1 game; Joe Arntsen and Logan McCutcheon earned the helpers on the equalizer. The tie lasted just 1:24 as the Broncos restored their lead when Brady Birnie slipped home his fifth of the year to put the Broncos back up 2-1. That lead spanned 54-seconds as Trevor Thurston scored his second in as many games and third of the season to make it 2-2; Jett Jones and Reid MacKay earned the helpers as the teams combined for three goals in a span of 1:58 to open the period. Swift Current once again took the lead as Filmon scored his second of the night on a power play with 1:53 left in the frame as the Broncos led 3-2 after two periods. The Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 10-8 in the second period.
In the third period, the Hurricanes had a pair of power plays in search of once again tying the game. Lethbridge peppered Poulter with 11 shots in the final frame but could not solve the Broncos overager. The Hurricanes pulled the goaltender late in the game in hopes of an equalizer but Swift Current’s Filmon would round his hat-trick to make it a 4-2 final.
The Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 32-19 in the game. Lethbridge was 0/4 on the power play while Swift Current was 1/5 with the extra man.

The loss for the Hurricanes ended their two-game winning streak as they fell to 12-12-2-0 on the season while falling to 4-8-0-0 away from home this year. The ‘Canes are now 7-3-2-0 in their last dozen games and 4-1-1-0 in their last six outings. Lethbridge is now 0-2-0-0 against Swift Current this season.
