Hurricanes Blanked 4-0 in Edmonton on Friday
Edmonton, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes played their only game of the weekend on Friday as they were downed 4-0 by the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place.
It was the second meeting of the season between the Hurricanes and Oil Kings. Newly acquired defenseman Luke Prokop made his Edmonton debut and opened the scoring just 4:14 into the game as he beat Bryan Thomson from a sharp angle to make it 1-0 Oil Kings; former Hurricane Jacob Boucher and Simon Kubicek earned the assists on the goal. Edmonton outshot the Hurricanes 12-8 in the opening frame.
The ’Canes had a trio of power play opportunities in the second period but failed to capitalize with the extra man. Edmonton had a pair of breakaways in the middle frame to extend their lead but Thomson turned aside by Tyler Horstmann and Shea Van Olm to keep the game close. The ‘Canes had a couple good looks to try and tie the game but Sebastian Cossa stopped all 12 Lethbridge shots in the frame.
Edmonton on a Noah Boyko penalty added to their lead midway through the third period as Josh Williams ripped home his team-leading fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0 with 8:54 remaining in the contest; Jakuk Demek and Carson Latimer earned the helpers on the goal. The ‘Canes earned a late power play and pulled the goaltender by Dylan Guenther quickly found the empty-net to make it 3-0 before Prokop added another late goal to round out a 4-0 victory for the Oil Kings.
The ‘Canes were outshot 16-5 in the third period and 40-25 in the contest. Lethbridge was 0/5 on the power play while Edmonton went 1/5 with the extra man.

The loss for the Hurricanes drops their record to 3-2-0-0 on the season while their road record falls to 1-1-0-0 on the new campaign. The ‘Canes are now 0-2-0-0 this year against the Oil Kings.
Lethbridge returns to action next Friday when they visit the Red Deer Rebels at 7:00pm before returning home Saturday, October 23rd when they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders.
