Hurricanes Acquire Picks from Rebels for Wilke
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday they have acquired two fourth-round draft picks from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for 2006-born forward Trae Wilke.
The ‘Canes acquired the 84th overall selection in the 2024 WHL Draft while also receiving a fourth-round draft pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. The addition of the 84th overall pick gives Lethbridge a total of nine selections in the first six rounds of this year’s draft.
Wilke, 18, was originally a second-round selection (29th overall) in the 2021 WHL Draft. The Saskatoon, SK, product totaled 25 points (9g-16a) along with 18 penalty minutes in 64 regular season games with the Hurricanes in 2023-2024. He skated in 100 career games with the ‘Canes collecting 33 points (12g-21a) with 34 penalty minutes. Wilke also added one goal in five career post-season games.
The Western Hockey League will hold the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday, May 9th beginning at 10:00am, with the first round being streamed on the WHL YouTube page and CHLTV with the pre-draft show beginning at 9:30am. Fans can follow the WHL Draft online at www.chl.ca/whl/draft.
