Hurricanes Acquire Dereniwsky from Royals
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Tuesday they have acquired 2004-born forward Carter Dereniwsky from the Victoria Royals in exchange for an eighth-round draft pick in 2025.
Dereniwsky, 19, was originally selected by the Royals in the second-round (39th overall) of the 2019 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. The Canora, SK, product has skated in 76 career regular season games with the Royals over parts of three seasons totaling 23 points (10g-13a) along with 36 penalty minutes. Dereniwsky had a career-high 18 points (8g-10a) along with 22 penalty minutes in 51 regular season games in 2022-2023 with Victoria.
The 5’10, 170-pound forward played four games with the Saskatoon Blazers in 2020-2021 record four points in four games. Dereniwsky spent two seasons with the Yorkton Maulers U18 AAA team in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 where he totaled 46 points (12g-34a) and 50 penalty minutes in 60 regular season games where he finished second and third in team scoring respectively.
Dereniwsky will join the Hurricanes ahead of the Dairy Queen Home Opener on Friday.
The Hurricanes open the 2023-2024 regular season with the Dairy Queen Home Opener against the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00pm on Friday at the ENMAX Centre.
