GAME DAY: Hurricanes Welcome Wheat Kings on Wednesday Night
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre tonight as they welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings at 7:00pm.
The Hurricanes (5-2-0-0) enter sitting in top spot in the Eastern Conference standings after earning a 5-2 victory on Monday in Edmonton against the Oil Kings. Carter Dereniwsky scored twice while Kooper Gizowski, Miguel Marques and Joe Arntsen also tallied in the win; Harrison Meneghin made 38-saves. Lethbridge enters with a perfect 2-0-0-0 record at the ENMAX Centre so far this season.
The Wheat Kings (3-3-1-0) enter on a two-game losing streak after suffering a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Hitmen at home on Saturday night at Westoba Place. Dominik Petr scored twice while Caleb Hadland had the other in the defeat; Philadelphia Flyers prospect Carson Bjarnason made 38-saves in a losing cause. Brandon has posted a 1-1-0-0 record away from home so far this year as they open a seven-game road trip.
Tonight will be the first of four meetings between the Hurricanes and Wheat Kings and the first of two visits Brandon will make to the ENMAX Centre. Lethbridge posted a 3-1-0-0 record in for match-ups last year against the Wheaties.

Thru 7: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 5-2-0-0 record (10 points) on the season after seven games. The ‘Canes are 2-0-0-0 at home and 3-2-0-0 on the road so far this season. In 2022-2023, the Hurricanes had posted a 3-4-0-0 record after seven games.
Road Heavy: The Hurricanes are in a stretch where they will play six games in nine nights with four of those six games away from home. Of their first 10 regular season games, the ‘Canes schedule includes seven road contests. Lethbridge is 3-2-0-0 so far this season on the road.
Balanced Attack: After seven games on the season, the Hurricanes have scored a total of 26 goals for an average of 3.71 goals per game. Last year, Lethbridge averaged 2.96 goals per game. Canada Coach: Hurricanes Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt was named as an Assistant Coach for Hockey Canada for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Anholt will serve on the coaching staff for Canada Red in Prince Edward Island from November 2-11. It is the second straight season the ‘Canes have had a coach for the U17’s after Ryan Aasman was a Video Coach last year.
Perfect September: The Hurricanes started the season winning all three games in the month of September to start the year with three straight victories. It was the first time since 2008-2009 that the ‘Canes started a season with a perfect 3-0-0-0 record. Lethbridge has posted a 2-2-0-0 record so far in October.
Great Start: After returning from the Minnesota Wild’s Training Camp, goaltender Harrison Meneghin has been tremendous for the Hurricanes. The South Surrey, BC, product has posted a 5-1-0-0 record in six starts posting a 1.81 goals against average and a .944 saves percentage with one shutout.
Gone Pro: On August 10th, the Hurricanes announced that Brent Kisio resigned as head coach after eight years at the helm to accept an assistant coaching job with the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League. Kisio left the ‘Canes as the winningest coach in team history posting a 267-176-44 regular season record while qualifying for the playoffs each season.
New Bench Boss: The Hurricanes announced Bill Peters the 15th head coach in team history on August 30th. Peters, who has served as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames, returns to the WHL for the first time since 2008. He helped guide the Spokane Chiefs to a WHL and Memorial Cup Championship in 2008 before going to professional hockey. He has posted a 117-93-13 record in the WHL.
